    Arrow Overdone Themes???

What are some of the most overdone DI themes in your circuit?

For instance, I was at a tournament (I live in Colorado) and in my second round there were a total of five cancer pieces. I was close to shooting myself.

I would say Cancer is the same over here in California. Child and rape pieces are very very VERY overdone too.

In Indiana I'd say, rape/abuse and cancer are the two most commonly used topics. Autobiographies are quickly becoming a common topic for DI's around the nation as well.

I see wayyyy to many child abduction stories these days. Also, I don't think that Autobiographies will ever be considered "overdone" outside of individual pieces. Yeah, some topics may be too overused, but the opportunity to create a character that's actually, well...real, is always a plus.

I personally feel that if a performer can pull off something extremely well, it doesn't really matter what the topic is. So, while I notice Autobiographies are becoming more popular, they win/do very well at tournaments as has been seen at NFLs the past few years ("Mormon Boy", "My Autobiography", "Soul of a Butterfly", "Property...Garland". etc.) So, if a topic if popular, but you're great at pulling it off, or you have a great piece. Go for it!

Nationally, there have been several overdone themes. There's been abuse, cancer, rape, and the most popular being racism.

the most overdone themes I've seen are autobiographies with singers (billie holiday, bessie smith, etc.) most sing a lot, and most pull the race card

wow...some of these are so true...Holocaust pieces...slavery pieces, the Garland pieces, Mick Hart....Vivian Leigh....should I go on? I don't see many of them being done differently...they are all done the same way...nothing new is brought into them especially "Mick Hart, Garland, Vivian Leigh"...

The "Celebrity" pieces. Literally makes me want to tear my eyes out, roll over, and die every time I see a celebrity.
Literally, if my life were a drama it would win nationals.

I am so tired of seeing pieces about cancer, rape, abuse, and eating disorders. So. Tired.
