Thread: How many practice performances are you giving per week?

Default How many practice performances are you giving per week?

Whether you are an interper, a debater, an extemper, or an orator, how many times are you performing per week leading up to NFL/CFL nationals?

Big proponent of NOT overdoing anything. Practice for interp and researching for debate are two different things however. I feel that a debater should research and read up close to every day before nationals, whereas an interper should not practice more than 2-4 times a week; the more practiced it is, the more boring it becomes to the performer, the more robotic it looks to the audience. That's just my feel.

I would personally say 2-4. One of the biggest downfalls of my NFL Nats experience was overpracticing. I went into "robot" mode every once in a while, and really felt like I did it once in an outround in Quarters, which obviously absolutely killed me. I'd say the only reason you should practice more is because there are many changes to be made still. Coaching truly isn't out of the question at this point, I would say (though large changes should probably stop after about 3 days before Nationals). If you consider wanting more coaching, the guys and girls over at 3P Speech (www.3pspeech.com) I hear are pretty good.

It's kind of sad, but my partner has NO time to work this summer. SO . . . We're practicing the day before we leave! HUZZAH!

I agree with what others have said, if you over practice it will not seem as real and it will lose some of it's realness, however you need to practice to know what you need to be doing when you perform and be able to perform well.
