Any truth to the rumors that Scott Stonebreaker is coming back to the circuit in the near future? I heard that going around at 5A FLA and was wondering if it was anything more than hearsay

But anyhow, who are we seeing a lot of in IE's? And I mean legitly, not more hannah-begley-winning-humor or stonebreaker-pulling-a-benjamin-button-and-aging-backwards-and-competing.

    No, like as a coach.

Hey guys, so based on what we have seen so far, who do we think will qual in each of the debates/IEs???
Remember that there are 3 spots for most events.

My name is a bit outdated but in response to Titanpride

Congress is a grab bag, but I think Brendan Porter is a lock, and Sarah Coughlon did well in Senate last year and is likely to do the same this year.
Allison Brown (DV) and Kayla Watson (Dobson) are both going to be trying hard to take Congress and if Charles Waless (Dobson) doesn't qual it's likely he will end up in Congress just like Hannah Begley, although I think at least one of them, with Hannah being more likely, will qual.

    PFD:
    Jackson Arn- Lawrence Nemeh (Chapparal)
    Alex Daniel- Michael Ferrante (Dobson)
    Katie Giel- Jenny Zou

The first two are pretty simple. I wouldn't be surprised if either didn't make it, craziness happens at this tourey, but at least one will. Let's face it: Chapp AN and Dobson DF are the two best teams in the state, I think DV coaching and Katie Giel being talented enough to get top speaker at Golden last year helps them qual over the likes of Martin and Celinne, who are still a good team.

    LD:
    Tony Nguyen (Chandler)
    Hannah Begley (Mtn. View)
    Chase Stevens (Brophy)

Tony and Hannah plain and simple, much like Dobson A and Chapp A, should make it. They've proven over thelast 2 years they are the best debaters in this tournament. That 3rd spot could land anywhere, but I really like Chase's style for a less progressive tournament like Nat Quals, good speaking style and I think he'll be more calm as a Junior with a ton of travel than somebody like Charles or Sarah or Rohit who have less travel and are looking down their senior year. I simply don't think Peter is as good as everybody says, I watched him twice this year and I just don't like his style, his win against Hannah had a lot of people scratching their heads, with me seeing that round, and his win at Red Mountain even the Wanless round was critisized, then he lost to Wade, Dobson's B debater, and nobody said a word, I don't buy Peter Chotras as a great competitor.

Those are really the only events I pay attention to, or have this year anyway.

Sounds pretty fair. Noah Wuerful has also been doin well this year, especially at DV.

Wait-for clarification- are you guys sure we have three spots for debate? what happened last yr-werent there two spots and why does this change?
i agree with most of ld-although i havent seen chase stevens-so i cant comment-as for pfd-crazy stuff does happen-and it speaks to teh inconsitency of the pf judges/event itself. two years ago-a novice team qualled-you just dont know what happens.
as for policy, brophy a, dobson a, and if there is a third team that can qual-this will be a little tougher to predict-but dva, chandlerprep, or maybe corona (doubt it highly though) may have a chance. it depends-weird things happen at quals in other debates, but i think it;ll remain consistent in most bsed on what happens throughout the yr.

For PF i think we are counting out Rocha-Aberra. They have done well so far, so i think they could take a third seat. The first two, if all goes right, will go to Chap AN and Dobson FD. But let's face it, nat quals is one of the worst tournaments of the year. Im not sure if i agree with DV GZ over CPA LSP. I mean Martin and Celine have shown themselves to at least be on par with some of the bigger names. Also, Martin going to nationals last year has helped him a lot this year, as well as going to camp. I realize so did both of the DV girls, but i think CPA has a bit of an edge over DV. I guess there is no way to find out until though, huh? Or at ASU, Many PF teams are fighting for their first bid, or their second in the cases of AN, FD, and LSP. ASU will be where everything is put into place.

In regards to LD, i dont think we should count out Noah Wuerfel. I think he has a shot of qualing or Kyle Turpin, he got 4th last year and beat Sarah Coughlin. Peter, i hate to say, did not do well at all last year. He went 2-10 at Nats, and didnt win a single round he only split decisions.

Policy should be Brophy A, CPA A and Dobson A. Plain and simple.

Finally Congress. I think a spot will go to Brendan, Hannah(if she doesnt qual LD), Mike Mazzella, and senate will be Coughlin and Wanless. Some people going after the spot will be: Lawrence, Watson, Brown, Attridge, etc.

I have no idea for IEs because i havent been paying much attention to them so far. Predictions anyone?

If we qualed 3 people in every event (6 for extemp, there are two types) these would be my picks as of right now, I expect that some of them will change drastically later on in the year. And keep in mind that you can only qual 1 person per event, so I made my list so that no person could be on it twice. So if parts of these lists look weird, that's why.

    LD:
    1. Tony Nguyen
    2. Hannah Begley
    3. Sarah Coughlin

    PF:
    1. Daniel-Ferrante
    2. Nemeh-Arn
    3. Lawrence-Sannes-Pond

    Policy:
    1. Patwardhan-Gupta
    2. Krishnaswamy-Sibal
    3. Henry-Quenneville

    Congress:
    1. Brendan Porter
    2. Charles Wanless
    3. Paxton Attridge

    Extemp:
    1. Noah Wuerful
    2. Joseph Kim
    3. Kohi Gill
    4. Megan McFeely
    5. Kaitlyn Feldworth
    6. Kelsey Corriell

    Oratory:
    1. Priyanka Atreya
    2. Katy Miller
    3. Kyle Turpin

    Humor:
    1: Denton Hatch
    2: Peter Cavillo
    3: Jake Woodward
(This event has been so random except for these three it's not even funny. I'm not necessarily calling them the best, this is just the best guess I have from a very odd year.)

    Drama:
    1. Eric Ramos
    2. Nicole Mayberry
    3. Isabella Schwartz

    Duo:
    1. Mazella-Olmanson (they did kinda kill Glenn Brooks)
    2. Binning-Selby
    3. Abney-Sager
