Thread: Best Extemp Region

    Default Best Extemp Region

Well, seeing that it's in my name, you know I can't not say that the West Side is the top extemp region in the country. I know about Boston, MA. I know about the midwest. We have raw talent without filtered camp delivery. We've been represented at Nats and believe me, California will make a strong showing this year. Ok, I've said my fill, let's see the debate.

What about the South? Florida is very different from Boston!

I think mountain has been very big as of late. Two of the three people that qualed from the hole in the wall district last year in DX made it to sems with the other making it to top sixty. Although it may not be the same this year, we will see.

texas needs it's own poll option. i mean, it's bigger than most of the regions you've listed. and better too.

Buh-Buh-Buh-Boston. Expect both Bone and Tannenwald to be in IX finals, and expect great things from Kendler in USX. As for CFLs, there is a lot of talent in Boston (fostered by constant competition with the more "travel friendly" schools) that has not had a chance to show itself. Case in point: my good friend beat both Bone and Kendler to earn the 2nd place trophy at Mass. States. I reasonably expect 4 quarterfinalists from Boston with no trouble, with 4 semi-finalists not out of the question. Again, expect either Bone or Tannenwald to take it all. Although I am myself an interper, i have a lot of pride in the Boston Boys; I expect great things from them, and I doubt I will be dissapointed.

    Default Best Region?

I once tried to scientifically determine the best region for extemp. I took a blank map of the continental USA, and placed a dot on the nearest point where every extemp finalist or semifinalist came from. What I found was that the greatest extemp competitors come from an arc, an upside down "C" or horseshoe, starting in the Midwest, circling under the north-central states, and ending on the other side in the Northeast. I also discovered that Texas and California were islands of achievement. Try this technique with the results from last year (they are listed in the Rostrum, and see what you can come up with.

i'm going to have to say that the eastern seaboard has a lot of extemp talent...boston (as mentioned previously...) is beyond loaded.

of course, the midwest has quite a few good people as well, but the boston people seem to overpower the others.

Ok, no, I'm not giving Boston its own section. I have to draw the line somewhere. And as for CFLs, over here in the west nobody is in participates in CFL. Cali is definately strong (not as strong as last year) but even though Theophanous isn't in extemp this year, expect good things from Cali'. 8)
