Hi! Freshman extemper
I joined my high school speech and debate Team because one of my only skills,Talking. I've gone to 2 meetings so far, and today had my first practice extemp My question was:"Is Gleen Beck Bad for America?" I was able to talk for 6 minutes and 52 seconds. I see my self doing really well in this wonderful world of forensics, and hope that I can contrinbute to an already large group of people.

That's fantastic! I'm glad you've fallen in love with forensics; it offered some of the best moments of my times in high school. Kudos!

Wow that's great! My first few extemp speeches as a freshman weren't too great, so I'm glad you were able to have a good start. Just keep up the good work and the good attitude and you will get far

congrats! That's pretty impressive! If you like talking, and keep up with current events, you'll do great at extemp. and you'll love it as well.

6:52? bravo!
As a novice extemper... one of my /tournament/ speeches went 2:30 (it was about farm subsidies... I didn't even know what those were). Fun fact: I got the 2 or 3 in that round, since I was entered in Novice Extemp. So basically... if you're already giving 7-minute speeches, you are on the right track.
Best advice I can give you: TUBS TUBS TUBS. They are your life. Hopefully you have teammates to help you maintain them... I split it with two upperclassmen, and I usually have to find ~7 on ~10 topics. Oh, and get a subscription to the Economist (I know it's hella expensive, apparently schoolteachers get a discount on it more than students do so ask your coach about it?).
So... IX or DX?
