Default How much "coaching" do the competitors on your tea

One of the most important factors in forensics is experience. How many rounds you've judged, years spent coaching, and of course- how many tournaments does a competitor have under his belt. For some schools, especially schools which recieve new coaches (unseasoned) or have a start-up forensics program, the competitors can do just as much coaching as do you, the coach. So my question is, How big of a role do the students on your team play in coaching each other? Do your captains help coach? Are there event "leader?" Do the varsity students debate the novices?

Thanks for your participation, have a great summer, and don't forget to call for early practices!

Every school and program works a bit differently. What works at one school program may not always work at another. This does not mean there is a solid right or wrong approach.

How many rounds you've judged? tons and tons on local, state, and national levels

How many years spent coaching? more than 25

How big of a role do the students on your team play in coaching each other?
All of the students on the team are required to attend 2 coaching sessions per event each week with an adult coach. They also do practice and coach one another. Additional eyes on a piece and audience input can be quite helpfu.

    Do your captains help coach?
We do have peer coaches -- seniors generally

    Are there event "leaders?"
We do have a team member who is peer coach/leader for some events

Do the varsity students debate the novices?
Our varsity policy debater are mentors for the novices. They will do practice debates but usually do not debate novices in general.
