Coming from someone outside the extemp would who's interested in gaining more knowledge, what are those?
Coming from someone outside the extemp would who's interested in gaining more knowledge, what are those? The formats for extemp speeches? What does UA stand for?
UA stands for unified analysis, it's basically a two point speech that is utilized commonly in college forensics. standard is a three point speech.

Minnesota traditionally uses a standard format.

I don't care much for UA although I know it applies in certain types of situations when a two-sided issue can be used against each of its components. I'm someone who likes to see progressive movement in a speech and I think UA doesn't let that happen. Sometimes the analysis can also get a bit long, drawn out, and repetitive. I know that doesn't apply to most of those who use it nor is the standard upon which the UA system was based but I personally prefer the standard method b/c I think it flows better.
yeah i honestly don't consider UA very useful, unless you absolutely can't think of a third point (which may only be an austin problem.) but the more info you throw out, the more comprehensive your speech imho. i watched a tape of a college nats (i think) champ a couple years ago who had three points, and three subpts. per point!
and although rana is one of my all-time favorite extempers, i still have to pick on her decision to use UA in her finals speech in 2002...the topic was an axis of evil topic, and she lumped iraq and iran together in a single point, while n.korea had it's own point...
