Thread: Fund Raising Ideas...

    Default Fund Raising Ideas...

I know that many teams have problems with transportation and such, much like my team has. So many problems that it is necessary to have fund raisers... several of them... throughout the year. So, I'm wondering what ideas have been tried and which of those have been successful. I know that our coach also taught drama classes at school and she did an annual full-length play and charged $5 or so for admission... We would also get invited to do performances at churches and other places and we'd take up donations... but we've also done pancake breakfasts, car washes, and even once tried to set up a fund-raising hair cut... that didn't seem to do well, though. So, what have you all done to support your team financially?

Our theater and speech and debate are on 2 separate budgets, but we find a way to get money for perfoming.

Twice a year (one in the beginning and one towards national districts), we put on what we like to call "A Kinght (lame...we are the knights) of Oral Interpretation." It is for the most part a huge success. English teachers give extra credit on work, and it is a lot of fun to attend. Tickets are $5, and the interpers perform their, usually humorous, selections. Also, each kid brings a dessert and there is a dessert giving intbetween the two "acts."

We raise abotu $1,000 a showing.

Also, hosting a tournament is a good way of raising money...We have a small/medium sized tournament and we are making a lot of money from it.

We normally do what we call "Forensics Follies" which is very similar to your "Knight" only we don't charge admission, seeing as how it is mostly for the parents... but we do print out programs and we sell ads, and that normally brings in a bit of cash... and we also do host a tournament... First Saturday in November, normally. Thanks.

i believe this has been done elsewhere a few times....anyhoo...
my high school had three major fundraisers. one, of course, was the tournaments we hosted with bardstown high. but besides that...
yard sale: each person on the team brings either $20 worth of yard sale items, or $20. then you sell it in an uber-yard sale. that way if you have, for example, 30 members on your team, you have the potential to raise $600. anything you don't sell can be given to the local goodwill.

bunco night: this is very successful. sell tables of 8 people, $5 per person, and have a bunco night. if you don't know what bunco is, it's a crazy fun game played with dice. each person on the team sells one table of 8, or brings in $40, which is what the whole table will cost. again, if you have a 30 person team, this is a potential $1200 fundraiser.

also, don't ride a bus. carpool, have the parents drive as well as judge. my high school has never taken a bus to a tournament.

Yes, but I'm talking about getting money FOR the bus, or the plane, boat, hot air balloon... or whatever mode of transportation we take to tournaments. Also, a lot of our kids can't really afford to go on many of the national trips that we go to... It can be difficult for us to get to Glenbrooks or Harvard every year. We like using the money for new scripts, productions, transportation, hotels... stuff like that. Any more ideas? Great ideas, by the way.

wow jman... do people like respect forensics at your school? Like for us, it seems as though no one really cares about it, they don't even know the kind of things we do. When i told my class i did forensics, only 1 knew what it was... and they were on the team... Its so hard for us to make money cause of that... so like, do people really enjoy forensics at your school?
