    Default Speech WIERD Trends

I've noticed that there are some "wierd" trends that go in speech, and I do believe that performers do this "on purpose" to look "cool" LOL!

    EXAMPLES

    1. brings a messenger bag to each round. This is a personal favorite of mine.
    2. performer wears glasses and then takes them off to perform (although they normally wear contacts or don't wear glasses at all)
    3. performer wears more gel on their hair than the avg. human's month supply.

I'm kinda confused by the wording of this. But, i wear glasses and i try to put in conacts for tournaments...but twice now iVE either forgotten or broken my contacts at a tourniment, so this is a necessity. Interp looks bad when you wear glasses. Every character has glasses and its annoying...so its not "to look cool."

If they get too dry, they can rip. It sucks, and it hurts really bad.

i spike my hair for tournaments. it takes like a gallon of gel.
haha, i remember that from several tournaments. i always assumed that was the way you always keep it. i cant imagine your hair not being like that.

have you ever noticed that speechies (esp. the guys) tend 2 have a certain "look"? like, something about their face, or hair, or something just they all look alike. sometimes i'll be walking down the street or around school and i'll see someone and think "he looks like a speechie". i wonder if this has anything 2 do w/ the over gelling of hair?

i HATE when people bring bags to their rounds. not just messenger bags, any bags. cuz they always have a cell phone in them and it ALWAYS goes off.
stop swaying during the piece. it's making me seasick.

If I'm performing a really physical piece (HI, Duet, or Duo) and I have to take off my jacket, I take it off, put it on the desk, and fold it in half (hot-dog-style).

Then I put everything in my pockets in the middle of that (cell phone, pens, change, wallet, etc.).

Then I fold the jacket in half again (hamburger-style) so it covers my stuff.

I don't know, I saw a certain brother-brother Duet team do it and just kinda started doing it myself.

And I always have my backpack with me.

(I turn off my cell phone, no worries).
I honestly thought FO was dead.

PS - I want my ****ing avatar back.

I have had the same messanger bag for the last 6 years or so. It's a very simple khaki with one strap and one big pocket. I wear it everywhere, and speech rounds are no exception. Partly, I'm afraid of losing my binder, but also I like the way it humanizes my appearance. We all tend to look so professional and dashing (or at least I try to) that I find it helps to have some relaxing aspect to our outfit. Plus, I don't know where I would keep all my **** without it.

What I hate is when interpers carry briefcases for their binders. That's incredibly lame.

As to the glasses thing, I only wear mine if I'm very tired- I don't really need them, but they help my eyes to focus. I will generally keep them on for Impromptu or extemp, and take them off for interp. I find it's hard to use your face and eyes effectively with glasses, but that they make me look smarter for when I have to be convincing.
