    Default Where is interp going?

Is anyone else noticing, despite occasional god-like gems such as natalie sintek, that interp in general is slipping away and becoming focused on gimmicks and visual flare, rather than things like honest characterization and nuance, etc...?

Feel free to discuss, but keep it clean - this ain't meant to hurt anyone's feelings.

I'd say that only since Josh Gad's interp of The Wizard of Oz has interp become so bent on gimmicks and the rest. It is ending though. Big name coaches and judges are starting to really get tired of it (a realization this year at NFL Nats). The new phase coming into interp is a return to interp in the mid-to-late 90s where acting ruled, at least in HI. DI seems to be evolving into a more complex being.

HI definatly devolved into a "who can do the most characters" for a while.

DI, while suffering from some disgustingly overdone pieces, has been returning to characterization as a standard. I find the sucess of Sami Kriegstein's DI last year- which featured no gimmicks, just heartwrenching acting- to be a hopeful sign.

I certainly Hope DI is moving back to real characterization, b/c I'm really very sick of all the "cute" and trite pieces with no real meaning.

    It's called cutting.

Watch the tapes and see Cole Grissom's performance.

He made it to Nationals finals for a reason.
I honestly thought FO was dead.

PS - I want my ****ing avatar back.
