Hmm, I voted for "traditional" literature, just because that's what I would PREFER to see in finals.. Unfortunately, thats not always the case. For example, this weekend, Duo finals consisted of 2[!!] Reduced Shakespeares, The History of TV condensed, a 'drama' written-for-speech piece, and The Odyssey (Mine, which, while it could be considered 'abridged' or 'condensed', was acctually a 3-hour play before I cut it to 10 mintues!)

If I was juding, I would tend to give higher ranks to more traditional pieces, unless they were absolute crap.

Ug. It's not a horrible piece, but the kids who do it (who happen to be on my team) are so talented that it is a waste for them to do it. They're looking for a new piece.

Probably because it can also apply to Duo.

i think that made-for-speech humors will make it to finals more often, but i agree with sassafrassz, i would prefer to see the traditional kind in finals more. those RSCs and such have been done to death.

just a note... you can't do neil simon for speech. unless you want to pay royalties. my coach wrote to his publisher about it and they were like "yeah, you can use it for speech. heres the royalty fee for each performance". so now i don't like neil simon anymore.
stop swaying during the piece. it's making me seasick.

It all depends of course on the performance by the individuals but I believe that made for speech pieces final more often, especially where I live. This past season 6 out of 7 pieces that finaled at sections in Duo where made for speech. And in Humor it was like 4 out of 6, so yah, they final more and alot of the time are the better performances. I really don't care what kinds of pieces final as long as they should be in that round based off talent not just the piece.
