I always looked at Poetry/Prose as any other interp, but with a book as a "safety" of sorts. Just treat it like an HI or DI, and don't bother looking down. It's hard to impress the judges with your nose turned down to the ground.

I'm not sure if this is the rule or the trend in Florida, but you have to look down at your book every so often (once at the top of the page and once at the bottom generally works, so you can interp the rest of it), page turns work fantastically as transitions, and you MAY NOT use the book as a prop. Also, there are no BIG movements.

some basic words of wisdom re: prose

eye contact is everything, if you do not look right into the audiences eyes, you will not be worth watching

do not move hand, face, body without a purpose...your movements should flow with words....lower body stillness is usually the way to be

while di can at times be more dramatic, prose is usually subtle; however, prose may be thought of as DI with a binder

give the "illusion" of reading (thats waht the ncfl ballots ask for, only an illusion, you must not actually read)
