just curious of others input on them...
I also have to question rankings which:
- have NO Logan on them
-put 4 extempers ahead of Josh Bone...(glenbrooks, MBA exhibition, MBA overall, quarters at harvard, 2nd or 3rd at NFLs....seem to be a bit deserving of a highest ranking)
-include an extemper who has been to very literally ONE tournament all year...and not a major one at that
-include another extemper...who was not fielded at emory or glenbrooks b.c her coach doesnt consider her to be one of the tops at her school (a school whose other best extempers are no where on the list)

I would say there are 3 deserving floridians for a national ranking....only one of them appears on the list

big problem: their algorithm they speak of probably doesnt consider the size/strength of a tournaments field (i.e. harvard's 250 person...strong field...being equal to blue keys 50 person almost ALL florida field)

I suppose you cant really rank something like forensics and expect to be exact on them but it seems like there are huge wholes

i think silverhammer2k4 hits the nail on the head with the rankings problem - ultimately, the computer algorithm used doesn't differineate between tournaments (i.e., Blue Key extemp is the same as MBA extemp). That's obviously problematic.

Moreover, the scarcity of results makes the rankings incomplete. Later tonight or tomorrow, I'll post the computer algorithm and for those mathematically-inclined, you're welcome to offer feedback and comments. Let's try to make the formula the most representative and accurate as possible.

Yea... I mean... Max Engelstein? Who? Kenny Li should easily be higher than him... I believe they're in the same division, and Kenny wasn't at Columbia, which is apparently, a tournament that can put you over the top?

the rankings are totally crazy.

like, grapevine is counted, but utaustin isn't, even though it was a toc qualifier?
austin was about a million and a half times more legit than grapevine. the only good speech in grapevine dx finals was christine halbert's, and i placed at that tournament. awful, awful.

any ranking system that has me over jeff geels, who is like, fx-state-champion-since-he-was-a-fetus... is just not right.

Additionally, the James Logan Tournament (Martin Luther King) was enormous. Much bigger than the "big" florida tournaments that are included, and yet Logan has yet to be included.
