    Default Musicals as HI's

I dunno if any of you guys have noticed, but Musicals as HIs has been really popular this year and year before. Dunno why. I've seen everything from The Whiz, to Urinetown, Bat Boy, Hairspray, ect.

It seems to be doing very well, and I was thinking of doing one myself, but I dunno if I should. I mean it seems like a trend now, like everyone does one! If any of you do a piece that's a musical tell me why you like it? Or if you don't and don't think its a good option, let me know too. 8)

Perhaps musicals are starting to become a trend (i did one this year), but i wouldn't say that its bad to do one. There is such a variety within the musical market itself that, so long as everyone isnt doin the same musical, i really see no problem with it. And there are definately less people doing musicals than there are children's books (ironically, i did one of them too). So if you find a musical you like, go for it.

I dont think it matters one way or another. What I mean is, you can do a musical AS a musical (ie Natalie Sintek's "Ruthless") or not as a musical (ie Kelly's and my "Ruthless"). Like Jeff said, as long as you like the script, it doesnt really matter.

The key is how it is interpreted. A musical is not musical if you don't interpret it as one (I've seen The Big Bang and Bat Boy multiple times in rounds and would never have guessed there originally was music, and they have been great). Therefore, it is no different from any other type of script. I like the trend, though. There are a lot of great musicals out there.

To branch off that, because people rarely actually use the music in their pieces, its not really a trend of doing a musical. You might as well say the trend is doing a piece in english.
