Thread: touching the floor during your piece

Default touching the floor during your piece

as in not necessarily having at least one foot on the ground? I've seen complete somersaults done during pieces (HI) before, and I was just wondering people's opinions on this? Not necessarily somersaults in general, just perhaps really extreme momevent such as that, if that makes sense?
Are there any rules against rolling around on the floor during your piece? Tastefully, and where it serves a purpose, of course.

According to the NCFL, you cannot touch the floor. This means any part of your body other than your feet. I'm okay with it though. In my DUO this year, my partner and I jump over each other. As long as it is significant to the piece and not purely for shock factor, I'm perfectly fine with it. NFL has no rules against it.

Mhm. Fair enough. I saw this guy perform in HI and one of his pops was from a sitting position on the ground straight into a backwards somersaulted that ended in a standing position. It was one of the cleanest, most creative pops I have ever seen and he's done fairly well this season.

WHOAH! That is rediculous. I wanna see that. Anyone with those kind of skills has got to be talented.

It was an amazing moment because absolutly no one saw it coming. It fit in perfectly as well, so it wasn't purely to showoff either. My personal petpeeve is when people bust into the splits or a fancy tech bit that serves little purpose other to showoff. But oh my, this fellow just made it flow so nice and I wanted to just get up and hug the guy right then and there because of his outstanding performance, but I resisted.

I don't really understand what you're asking but I'll try to elaborate on what he did a bit more.

So the character he was in had been tripped or something and was sitting on the floor looking up at the person who caused them to fall. Then his pop into the person who did the pushing was a backwards somersault. I've tried the move a couple times to try to figure it out and it actually seems fairly simple, it would just require a LOT of pratice to get it as smooth and as quick as he had it.
He had his hands sort of arched backwards to start with that way he could use them to propel his body. He somersaulted/rolled backwards on his left shoulder to the point where he was on his knees with his hands out in front of him. Sort of like this, but it was a lot more contained:

Then he just pushed upwards so that he was in a standing position.
In reality, the backwards somersault into a standing position isn't too difficult. But getting the move to the point where it looks as crisp as he did? VERY difficult. So props to him for being so creative, I think.

Unbelievable... um in a suit!? That's astonishing. Really. He must be ripped under that suit.

Andy Langdon always seems to add some dance sequence. In the State Finals round of Indiana (which he won...), he did a standing back-flip. so it definatley legal hahha.

I see nothing wrong with it, if a person has a physical ability that may set him self apart from the rest of the competition then why shouldn't he be allowed to? It's the same thing with accents and sound effects, if not everybody is capable of creating the same accents or sound effects, then those should be against the rules as well.
