    Default Transitions Between Scenes

What is an effective method of transitioning between scenes. Some people turn around, some people have a characteristic sound that signals scene changes, and some sing. What are the best ways to transition?

Whatever flows best with the action of the piece. I can think of three different ones that are in my DUO. We have straight pops from scenes, a slower fade, and one instance where I step in front of my partner and he changes characters. It really depends on what you feel fits bets. I personally don't like it when DUOs use the same transition over and over again. It gets boring. But the beauty of DUO is that you can do so many different things.

Agreed! Duo can have so many types of transitions. It all depends on what works with your piece and how creative you are. I like transitions that utilize sound that is specific to the text (like if a dog is in the next scene a dog bark + a movement could be a cool transition).

Try this article. It might give you some new ideas.

I know this might seem a bit rude to some but I think that "shhh" and "haaah" transitions are a little played out. I mean it's cool the first few times but when it shows up every other time, it's time to start thinking of a new transition.

No that's completely valid. The best transitions are the ones that are new and exciting because they're different from the ones that are commonplace and played-out already.

I think the best and newest transitions I saw were from "Happy Birthday, Wanda June"...

I have to disagree with using the same transition over and over. While granted it may get boring after a while, the repatition lets the audience know that the scene is changing to something different. That kind of transition is especially useful when the judge may be inexpirienced/or just a little slow. But everybody has their own opinion.

I think it depends on the piece; if there are tons of character changes, then having one transition can unify the piece and clarify when scenes are changing. But it does get dull, so if the characters won't get too confusing, new transitions are fun.

Totally, I mean those transitions that never change would get boring if they use it excessively, and by excessively I mean every other minute is transitioned with a haa or a shh. If its that repetitive sound to show there is a transition, it better be every like two-four minutes or else it gets really boring.
