Default Tips on picking up Parli?

I'll be attending American University next year and am really hoping to join their parli team and debate in the APDA. I've done fairly well in USX and Congress regionally, so I'm not too worried about speaking style. What I am worried about, however, is trying to pick up the format and start training for next year; USX and Congress are easy enough to prepare for, but debating in the APDA seems like it requires such a wide breadth of knowledge. Any tips on preparing over the summer? (books to read/topics to know inside and out/etc.)

wow you too Schad, amazing. I plan on doing Parli at Northern Arizona University and would also apreciate some tips also. It is well-known that it is not a high school event in Colorado and i need some tips. I did FX and LD at Durango High School

watching some good debaters, I feel like POIs are actually really, really important whether it be answering them, ignoring them, having them ignored, etc... you have to play it right.

to be honest, if you're good at USX you're pretty solid on the political issues since parli is really domestic (as an IXer I hate that, haha).

i guess the biggest surprises for me, coming from Extemp, were:
-how funky definitions can get/when to accuse your opponents of being unfair
    -POIs, POIs, POIs
-the different types of resolutions (fact/value vs. policy) and how to deal with them

BUY A COPY OF BLACK'S LAW DICTIONARY. it has saved my butt several times.
except if you do congress you might already own it. haha.
