I observed Duo finals so here is my recap of the round:
1. Shah/Shakir - The Jungle Book - Wow. Amazing. Unbelievable. I was literally speechless at the end of their piece. Amazing dance scene. Hilarious at times and really sad (almost to a point of crying) at the dramatic parts. I can see it in the national finals. In my rankings, of the round, they were the clear winners. Seriously I looked around after they performed and people had a "woah how did they just do that" look on their faces.
2. ?/? - Joy Luck Club - I don't see how they got 2nd. In finals, it was impossible to hear them. It is a dramatic piece but in such a big room, no one could hear them. In my rankings of the round, I put them in last place.
3. ?/? - 30 Reasons Not to be in a Play - This piece was funny, but not 3rd place funny. It also was very random. There wasn't a clear plot line, and I nearly dozed off in the piece. In my rankings of the round, I put them in 6th.
4. ?/? - Snow Sort Of White - This piece was funny with good characters. These two girls were hilarious except one of them was more talented than the other and carried the duo. The plot was confusing though. They performed first so that might have affected their ranking but I thought they were pretty good. In my rankings of the round, I put them in 4th.
5. Evan Bartz/ Ryan Vasquez - Controlling Interests - The piece was hilarious. Yes, we all know it was done last year and got 2nd at nationals (check youtube), but I still thought it was crazy funny. Characters were great. They have got nothing on the guy who did it at nationals, but it was still hilarious and I feel as though they should have been ranked higher. In my rankings of the round, I put them at 2nd, but they were nothing close to the first place guys. STILL HILARIOUS THOUGH!
6. Reynolds/ Shah - The Nerd - Really, really funny. Characters were hilarious. They hit their jokes all spot on. The story was a bit confusing but their jokes were hilarious. In my rankings of the round, I put them in 3rd. The only thing separating them from the second place guys was that they didn't move around a whole lot in the piece and I think that hurt them.
7. ?/? - Captain Underpants - The piece was fairly funny. The characters were good and the sound effects were great. What might have hurt them in the round is that their big tech scene was off a bit and they were not synchronized. Also the ending was not very good. In my rankings of the round, I put them in 5th.
If anyone has the names of the people I am missing, please fill it in.
