Thread: Best Extempers Never to Win a National Championship?

I realize the word "never" in the title of this thread largely refers to people just not having won during their speech careers, but considering the timelines of the responses, seems like it would be more accurate to call it Good Extempers Who Didn't Win Nationals Within the Last, Oh, 18-36 Months.

    Default Best Extempers?

Best extempers never to win the National tournament, eh?

    In my opinion:

    USX:
Logan Scisco, Danville High School, KY

    IX:
    Josh Bone, Milton Academy, MA

mmm. agreed on both counts. Josh especially had it tough this year, coming so close (finalling in both CFL and NFL) but never taking the title. . .

    Word.
I watched his sems round as well, which I thought he took with Scott Cheesewright at a fairly clear two.
That was, overall, an unimpressive Israel round. Some seriously tired humor [Like Mike Tyson, America has bitten off more than it can chew], sparse depth in analysis of party politics, some genuinely poor Libya analysis [that's a reference to one speaker, but I'll immediately confess to a bias against the anecdotal approach she took].
My finals breakdown went something like: Bone, Cheesewright, Ishana, the last speaker in the round, the first speaker in the round, Krendler.

I had a very interesting view of the final round, and it seems as if many judges saw it similarly to me.

I ranked it as the following:

    1. Ishanaa Rambachan
    2. Ron Kendler
    3. Brandon Halseide (1st speaker)
    4. Scott Cheesewright
    5. Josh Bone
    6. Karan Bhople (last speaker)

Once I find my final round flow, I'll be glad to post an in depth analysis of how I saw the round. I thought Ishanaa took it easily, and I didn't think Bone answered his question.

I must have had an interesting view of the round as well, because i thought Bone was a clear 5 (in front of Ron Kendler)...for several reasons, and feel free to disagree, just an honest opinion of the round-

    Here's how i ranked it-
    1. Ishaana Rambuchan
    2. Scott Cheesewright
    3. Brandon Halseide
    4. Karan Bhople
    5. Josh Bone
    6. Ron Kendler

I thought that Ishaana had the best overall speech, but i did think Scott's was the funniest-he also used the most evidence, 12 pieces, for those who were flowing. However, unlike Josh and Ron, he didn't have a speak like he was in a fast LD round to get the point across and provide analysis. Mayya is right, the analysis the round over wasn't great, but it was solid for most of the speakers. Josh's little "Claw" manuever with his hand never won me over, it seemed like he was attacking the crowd as he was delivering his points. Overall, I thought the CX periods were good, though Karan took TOOOO long to ask his questions. I can provide other stuff if you'd like, but that's what i can say now.
