    1. Resolved: President Obama's plan for increasing troops in Afghanistan is in the United States' best interest.

From Slate.com - December 1, 2009: Obama Issues Troop Orders for Afghanistan

As the public awaits Obama's Tuesday-evening announcement at West Point, the president has already issued troop orders to top military officers and shared the decision with key cabinet members, according to the New York Times. Late on Sunday, Obama met with Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, the chairman and vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Gen. David Patraeus, among others. Later, Obama held a videoconference with Gen. Stanley McChrystal and the U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan. The president also called or was scheduled to call key world leaders—French President Nicolas Sarkozy, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev—though White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said those conversations would not be "overly specific." Britain will send 500 additional troops to Afghanistan, according to Reuters, and the French newspaper Le Monde says the U.S. has asked France to send 1,500 more.
