So, many of you (or those you know) may need help in basic, intermediate, and/or advanced levels of speech/debate/interp. Sometimes, what you've tried isn't working, and perhaps you just aren't connecting with your coach. You've even tried videos on the NFL website, but they're a little bland.

But what if there were fun, engaging, humorous videos out there that taught all levels of forensics... and they were available for free? Even more, they were made by faces you've recognized on the big stage over the past number of years? Videos you could show in classrooms and to your peers who are struggling? Videos you would watch, learn, and be entertained by all at the same time? Videos filled with hyperbole, allusion, alliteration, gags, pictures, and descriptions of your great aunt ruth with a beard?

The point is - we at 3P Speech would like to begin this process. However, instead of assuming what topics and ranges to cover... we would like you to decide what video topics we should cover.

Leave a comment below and let us know what areas of Speech/Interp/Debate we should analyze - the ones that are difficult, undercoached, and overlooked.

We look forward to putting these out for you all!

Sincerely,
The 3P Speech Team

Have you watched the videos on NFLtv.org lately? Hardly what I would call bland. Also, this fall, the NFL is rolling out a new website with TONS of new video content... available exclusively for NFL schools/coaches/students.

I have seen the videos on the NFL site; they are a little bland. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, I just don't believe they're hitting on any particular bit of info that is interesting to the students involved with the activity. In fact, they seem like tools mostly for new coaches in the activity.

This seems like a fun/fresh idea that the kids might enjoy watching.

Juan, would you mind sharing some of those qualities you think could make our videos more dynamic and interesting for students? We (NFL) really want to provide the best possible content, and I would love to hear your thoughts (or anyone else's, for that matter).

With warm appreciation -- Adam

The workshop videos are good; you're giving the students at home (who are watching the video) the same exact lectures you're giving in person.

However, the videos that I see from interviews (i.e. Dave Kraft and Lindsay White) would be fascinating if it wasn't in a talk-show esque manner. The Q&A segments are a little outdated and not, as the OP implied- fresh. I think these two people are great candidates to make videos around, as they both have a lot to offer in way of advice/recommendations/experience... but maybe giving them some time to create videos revolved around their personalities- a little one on one face time with just the camera to discuss the topic they deem important, instead of just general questions you asked the two of them.

Again, I think that the videos are great for new coaches since you touched some of the general topics- including team and coach building discussions.

I hope this made sense, I'm kinda multi-tasking and it is a lot tougher than I thought it would be.

As an interper who had to coach myself mostly, what I always needed the most help with but rarely got, was cleaning a piece. If you could find some way to explain to kids ways they can do that and anything they can do to work on it, I think it would be an incredible help to lots of people.

Juan, thank you for the play-by-play critiques of the videos I was involved with. I was, however, referring to the general useful of the videos beyond just the ones I had a hand in.

To speak more specifically to the coaching series, these were a unique format created with the objective of telling the stories of coaches, both newer and experienced, and of a successful interp coach... to get a sense of their philosophies of coaching as a foundation for further study. Unfortunately, because some of these coaches make a living off contracting their services, lectures, etc., we are not able to get more direct coaching advice from them.

That said, when the new NFL website debuts, the richness of content geared directly toward students will be unparalleled!

Hello Mr. Jacobi,
Can you tell me if the content features any local tournament videos? I have seen the ones on NFLtv and they involve National Tournament(s) (at least for Congress) and usually that is different from how local ones are run. I just wanted to know if that's a possibility because most people only go to local ones and so it would be more helpful to the general group of debaters to see something more close to home that they can relate with even though the national videos are great, but I can usually just read about them from the guides that NFL has published on their website.
Thanks!

The problem with catering to local tournaments is almost every state runs local tournaments differently. For example Florida locals are very small, by district, and they don't break to finals, they just cumulate, whereas New Jersey has up to 60 people at a local and break to finals. There's also confusion a lot between CFL locals and NFL locals in some states. I would really just talk to your coach if you have any specific questions about local tournaments.

As for my input, I like the fact that NFLtv is catering towards the larger national tournaments, and I'm personally excited to see what they release in the fall.
