State your name, your school, and your events, other than poetry, that you do, and what poetry program you're thinking of doing next year.
Here's Mine:
Megan Brown
Maconaquah High School
DI, Dec, OO, Pro, Duo, maybe HI
"What Have You Lost?" a selection of poems from the poem compilation book, "What Have You Lost?" collected by Naomi Shihab Nye

I'm primarily a DI person, but I've been tricked into doing OI this year.
Josh Isaacs
Acton-Boxborough High School

I have, at 3 poetry tournaments, done 3 different programs. So far, all of them have been Billy Collins, but for CFL Nationals, I'm making a program of works by Abba Kovner. With any luck, I will be able to avoid poetry entirely next year(it's never very competative in Ma anyway).

Being a person at a school who only goes to NFL nationals....What are the major events at CFL?

Josiahzacks

CFLs is:
Dramatic Performance (HI and DI in one event-i.e. very competative)
Extemporaneous Speaking (No IX/USX split)
Student Congress (No Senate/House split)
Declamation (Deliver somone else's speech- limited to underclassmen)
Original Oratory (Essentially the same as NFLs)
Duo Interpretation (Same as NFLs except each person can play only 1 character)
Oral Interpretation of Literature (Aka Prose/Poetry- Alternating rounds of Prose and Poetry readings)

The events are all a little bit differant than NFLs. In some cases (DP, Extemp, Congress) this makes things more competative. For others, less competative. Dec. and OI are CFL only events.

I don't know if we'll be competing in National Competitions at all, but here goes anyway. I've done a couple Poetry pieces in my time. I had an experience where I found out there was the first meet of the season on Thursday, and it was Monday. I determined that I'd compete in this first tournament of the year. I chose poetry. I proceeded to memorize four poems of Shel Silverstein- from his book Where the Sidewalk Ends.
Invitation
Where the Sidewalk Ends
Lester
The Long-Haired Boy

I then won first and second place in the two rounds that day. I never competed again with that piece. I also like to hold it above my friend Shutaveya, winner of the 6th place award in Poetry at State, 's head, that I beat her both times that day. She obviously wasn't ready.

My second poetry endeavor came when I competed in Michigan's Pentathalon competition. Five pieces- five to eight minutes each.
One each of Prose, Poetry, Drama, Storytelling, and an Original.
I competed with the piece BEOWULF. Excellent epic poetry- did the section where Grendel rips the peoples heads off. The best part of the day came when the male judge said to the female one, "I felt that" about Beowulf.

I don't expect to compete with poetry again. I shall miss it.

beowulf?....really?...i cant see that as a poetry piece

I'm Toni

I'm taking Prose and Poetry. I've been performing, How to Heal the Hurt by Hating. Thank you megan for loaning me that book. it's so funny.
I'm getting tired of only having two events. I want to find a duo so I'll have a national event for Districts. Does anyone know any good Duo scripts for two girls.

where I'm from Prose and Poetry aren't separate events....they're both together Like in CFLs with the aLternate prose/poetry rounds. but yeah.
my main event this year was OI and I did some Duo and DI on the side but my main event next year wiLL be DI...if it's possibLe at some tournaments I wiLL be doubLe entered [cross entered] in DI/HI or DI/OI or DI/Duo...depending on the tournament. Now if its the Crestian CLassic tournament in Ft. LauderdaLe, FL i'm gonna push to be tripLe entered. That shouLd be fun.

Hmmm..as far as scripts go for next year....I...I dunno. I do have a DI that I found this year but thats a surprise

Melissa, how are you going to cut Stop Pretending by Sonya Sones? I tried to do What My Mother Doesn't Know after a failed attempt to cut Stop Pretending. I mean, there's nothing that sticks out about it. That part where the kids make a joke about the crazy people was pretty good. I just decided I couldn't work my self up enough for it. Melodrama!!!

Toni, did you see the chick who won Emory with that last year or the year before? She was freakin awesome. "Monkey sheets..." My favorite line!

As for me, Jana Robinson
Overton High School / now at David Lipscomb University
Sophomore (yeah yeah, so I still play the forums, so what?)
Next year: DI/Duo/Prose (if I can finish cutting Planet of the Blind)/Oratory/Impromptu oh yeah, going for the pentath gold.
shout out to gordon and all of bga.
