I would realllly love to try and sing in a prose piece, at least a little bit. I'm a male and I'm trying to find a prose piece to accompany my poetry for OI. I was thinking about Daddy's Little Girl, but I heard it's overdone... but I kinda like it, y'know. I'll be using it in New Jersey and in terms of national tournaments, probably just UPenn and States at the highest. But idk how far it'll go, I doubt it'll get me into nationals. Any thoughts/recommendations? :P

If you do sing and take it to tournaments that run by CFL rules, you can't exceed 30 seconds of singing. Just something to watch out for (I think Penn runs on CFLs).

Yeah, I know. Do you know if NFL has a 30 second limit?

I think they do have a limit; I dont know what the limit is, though.
Not trying to sway your decision, but Daddy's Little Girl was done extensivley in New Jersey as prose last year, and even finaled at states.

NFL does not have a limit in singing. I mean, 2008 DUO 2nd place Truong/Truong "Wizard of Oz" sang for a good 3 minutes if not more.

"Without You" by Anthony Rapp - some of the Rent songs are in this memoir. It's a wonderful book about his coming out but mainly dealing with his mother's demise due to cancer. It's very touching.

Thank you, Connor.
So anyway I wouldn't base your piece search solely on the fact that you would like to incorporate singing. Remember, since it's interpretation, you can be musical in a piece without singing. You could hum. I've seen it done sometimes in HI. Two that come to mind were "Charlie the Caterpillar" and "The Witches" from 2008 NFL finals (well, The Witches was kinda humming, but it really wasn't singing, either).

You could do what we do in South Dakota and do an autobiography of a singer and inject their songs into the piece. Kind of like the Southern Girls duo where they did Summer by Billy Holliday (although I'm not actually clear on if that was the script or not)
