The Marriage Counselor (Logan) - this is such a ripoff of the 2002 nats video. i hate this peice. i've seen it like 10000 times, and yet they still got 1st place @ diablo valley invite.

it was a fun tournament, run a little better than last year, but still freaking pretty rowdy crowdy and insane. heheh.

At SCU, I competed in Persuasive, OI, and Congress.

I have a couple of bones to pick with the SCU tab. For IEs, overall placements were assigned based entirely off of final round ranks. Which is, in my experience, an inferior method compared to one that takes into consideration the results from every round. Most CA tourneys know this and use the cumulative-totals method (Berkeley, local leagues, DVC, MLK invite, etc). Furthermore, the panels in most, if not all, of the IE rounds consisted of only 2 judges. Thus, as can be expected, some of the results of the IEs seemed a bit off.

Post-tournament, I calculated the cumulative totals for the Persuasive category (OO and OA combined), and came out with this:

so yeah our team was surprised when u didnt get the big 1.

and elaine kuo, is she good? (well duh, she got 1st).. but anyway.. i went to UTNIF with her... never saw her speech tho.

DI, i dont know. DUO, "THE BIG BANG" <-- this peice won by a LANDSLIDE (almost picket fenced i think straight 1s, except one 2 in the final round.)

The Big Bang wins like, every tournament they go to. its sooo f*****CKING HILARIOUS!!!!!! they interpppped the hella out of it.

I'm doing The Big Bang for Duet (at least for the time being...), and I was just wondering, like, what do they do to this piece? How do they make it super amazing?

okay, the thing about The Big Bang which makes it so totally differnt than any other peice is that they INTERPPED THE **** OUT OF IT!!!!
they didn't let the script perform for them, they totally put it into their own interpretation, made it so unique, the script played a small role in it. what they did with the actions, voices, characters, analogies, ideas, were just so crazy!!!!
ie. the Caesar killing scene, Caesar never says a word, but he plays golf n has a conversation with the soothsayer. he gets killed in slow-mo when he is about to strike his gold ball.

they did the "we're jews and we're having no fun" and turned it into a song by the tune of "HEY JUDE" by the beatles. AMAZING. how did they think of it. their tech/blocking is so crazy and amazing as well.

and so many other things unimaginable that makes it such a crazy funny peice. they deserve it. how the **** did they come up with that stuff???

haha...that one 2 they got was to me :lol: horray....

The big bang was, agreed...tottally AMAZING technically and it was really funny....however, it was hard to follow and when u REALLY look back on it...didnt really have any point or meaning once so ever it was just a bunch of repeted jokes and sound effects. Didn't you feel yourself watching it going...ok....when is this story gunna happen? in anticipation and stuff....i donno...dont get me wrong....i thought it was hillarious and TOTTALLY AMAZING technically....but they didnt have much of a piece.

Its a good piece but they used like 7 words of the actual script...the rest was yelling and sound effects.
