I was totally unaware that Parli was offered to High Schoolers. I am a big parli fan, but I am limited to watching/judging College. Where do high schools do Parli?

I am not aware of any that do, but I thought since it's so popular at the college level, and so many high school students are interested, we could have a forum for it. Maybe we can have some competitiors on the college circuit tell their feelings of competing and such.

I definatly agree. It seems to me that this Ted Turner *explative deleated* is supposed to be a watered down Parli for high school. It's too bad the NFL doesn't just sponsor normal parli, though admittedly the implementation and regulation would be very difficult.

many people laugh at parli debaters.

usually people do it "for fun"

as a slack off event or to fulfill a class requirement.

let me correct myself we need to broaden our horizons get some other events and maybe it would increase the number of people who participate in wyoming forensics

I way wrong to say we have no good events because we have plenty of them

Hello, folks.

Here in Oregon, Parli is a regular event, although for High School competition, it is called Public debate, apparently to emphasize that it is a form of debate that should be understood by the average person, unlike LD and CX.

parli has just become a regular state event here in CA...before that we had several invitationals year-round that offered it. they took out ted turner debate and replaced it with parli (yes!).

That sounds like a good move.

Public and Parli are to different methods of debate. Public debate is Parli without T arguments and critik's it's common man debate...that's right i said man

There is only one high school touney in PA that I know has that event, and its E.L. Meyers MLK tourney, but the topics are like really retarted.

parli is a state event in cali and its pretty tough. also we had parli at every single league tournament. at the state quals parli was huge in my league and it was really hard to brake...

I take huge issue with the comment earlier that parli is mostly comprised of "slackers" who only do it "for fun." Parli is taken very seriously by many, myself included, and having competed at both the HS (not parli, though) and college levels, I can tell you with no reservation that parliamentary debate is the most difficult forensics event that exists (probably why NFL doesn't sponsor it). It exists as a synthesis of LD, CX, and extemp, and the skills from all 3 of those are required to be a successful parliamentary debater.

Parli is a full-fledged debate here in California. The leagues all offer it and it's done at State.

We don't have it in IN. Is it just a debate using parlimentary procedure? And is it anything like Model United Nations?

CWalker

It is a very simplified version of Parli procedure, there are only two types of points. There are better explanations about it on the sight here somewhere, just look around. Or you can go the APDA or NPDA website (American/National Parliamentary Debate Assoc.). And not, it really isn't anything like MUN.

In South Carolina, most people don't even know what parli is. I've heard of a few tournies in Georgia that have it. It is an awesome event, any ideas how to spread it?
