One of my teammates did that topic last year, she placed really well at the early tourneys but the hype eventually fizzled out...hers was mainly serious tho, just poking fun at all of the idiots she saw on tv and giving societal commentary, a fuuny one would go far tho, good luck.

i find myself disliking most reality tv shows....... so i guess as long as the OO is not CENTERED around reality tv shows, then it could be alright. but yeah i dont think id enjoy an oo that is cheezy on reality tv. i like cheezy oo's but only if i like what they r mocking. and a lot of ppl hate reality tv. especially OLD people - most likely to be ur judges. just something to think about.

I wrote an OO about reality television last year, I called it: "This is the TRUE story" I began by using that little opening dialogue from 'The REAL World' only I changed some of the words around. In the speech, I basically said that the overall quality of television has been diminished because of reality shows, and I must have mentioned that reality shows aren't real about 40 different ways, LOL.
Oh yeah, I also forgot, my OO was more of a 7 minute comedy routine rather than an OO. PM me for examples of witty lines that I put in there, I made fun of a LOT of shows such as: Temptation Island, Survivor, The Osbournes, The Anna Nicole Smith Show, The Real World, Fear Factor, and Joe Millionaire (even though this show came out in January or some time, I made some last minute changes to my speech to add it in.)
Just some words of wisdom: If you seriously want to do this topic as an OO, you have to make sure you explain what each show you mention or riducule is about. example: Fear Factor contains about 10 people competing against each other in a vast array of daring stunts in order to win a large sum of prize money, otherwise people won't know what your talking about at all, and you may get a bad rank.
One more thing, you are very apt to getting downed by judges who don't watch tv, hate tv, or don't know anything, I broke to semis every time I did OO, and the 1 time I didn't, was because I had an old woman judge who only wrote "I don't watch TV" on the ballot, and gave me a 6. The other times I broke to finals I didn't do so hot, because my speech was only 7 minutes long... take my advice and have a 10 minute witty/serious speech, and things will go good for you, LOL. PM me if u have more questions.

I did this oratory last year. A large problem I had with it was that not everyone had seen all of the reality tv shows, so half-way through the year I modified it to encompass the media's attention towards "reality" and the American sense of voyuerism. Just a suggestion that you might want to make the topic broader than just reality shows.

:x I utterly hate the semi-new trend in oratory which is reality TV. At least every tournament that I attend (depending on the size) has at least 2 orators who do this way overused topic. If i were you, I would choose something a bit more original...I mean after all it is ORIGINAL Oratory!
