I go over and talk to anyone willing to listen.

I'm an iPod guy.
If I'm not listening to music, either on my mp3 player or someone elses, I'll probably be found walking around the school with my friends, talking to someone I met, or texting my girlfriend if she's not there.
Oh, watching movies is fun too.
but the #1 time spending activity==PLAYING CARDS.

Ah! I LOVE meeting new people at competitions/talking to old friends too of course. It's the best! I find speech kids to be the best people you'll ever meet.
Then of course... the ipod does make for great times as well. I have a whole prepping playlist... it's great!
Not one for practicing between rounds unless I felt upset with a part in a previous round that I felt I really needed to review.
Also... cards.... hells yeah! We have team-wide games, it's good fun and a great time-killer!

I love teams that are like tribes. They sing and dance together, feed each other, clean lint off each other.
Then you have our team. Which is like...a pack of nomads. A very small pack of nomads.

I mostly listen to music with fellow speech team members, but on occasion I'll mingle with other teams at the tournament.

I think I mainly just walk all over the campus while going over my piece. I really only talk to peeps from other schools after the tourn, or if I don't break.

I do a bit of everything. If I'm particularly nervous or if I'm antsy to compete, I'll practice/talk to the walls, but a lot of the time I'm chatting with team members and/or competitors or listening to music with team members (we all share iPods--yay cute team bonding).
When we're at Nat Quals, we usually play cards and do a bunch of games. There's so much time to spare at Nat Quals bc it takes forever to post new rounds, and we just hang out. =)
At local tourneys, I know most of my competitors, so that's fun. =)

Haha, there is always a lot of flirting action at tournaments, now that I think about it. My favourite has to be "I really, really like your piece." (But he totally slept through all of the DI finals.)
It's weird, but I don't tend to flirt too much. It's always been with teammembers or boyfriends. Hmm. Maybe I need to broaden my forensics horizons. Haha.

I got asked to someone's homecoming after a congress round. They competed to "pick up boys" for the event.
Needless to say, I was surprised, and was all too willing to pass on the offer.

1st of all, great topic. I usually spend my time reading, wandering around the school with my Samsung MP3 player (anti-Ipod!), and chillin with peeps from other school and/or pickin up chicks. Ha ha ha - you guys have no idea how little that happens. Lol.

I flirt at small tournaments, or if I really don't care about the result.
But if it was important, I'd always stay professional to set an example to my younger HI kids.

I guess I flirt too with girls from other schools. But mainly when I don't break. That way, I can still feel good and keep my sanity. Oh yeah I'll flirt with a girl, and if she makes it to the final round and I don't, I'll promise her that I'll be there...

I typically will walk around aimlessly, listening to my iPod.
I get into a zone when I'm about to compete and my music helps me get there.
When I don't have the pod stuck up my ears, I'll chill and visit with people. I like talking with people from other teams. I can't just sit around or I'll fall asleep.
I really like my iPod. I make tournament playlists. I still have my NFA mix. It's good for jamming.

I am like my teams official tournament walker, like I could win middles just for wandering.

Hmm at Westlake tournament last year some friends of mine and I walked around singing American Pie. That was really fun.
Most tournaments I go meet people, or take someone's tea and hide it in a locker. ;)

there are two things to do at tournaments in downtime
a) you walk around talking to and buttering up other debaters, i win a lot of rounds because I flirt with the girls beforehand!
b) mock the *********s who play guitar at tournaments and think they're cool

Play cards, talk to people from other teams, and wander around the school and get lost. Good times!

I never get bored at tournaments! There's always something to do...in between rounds: prep for the next round, talk about your previous competitors....before awards: speculate, place a few bets :)
But if I do find myself getting a bit bored with the tournament...I like to:
Definitely catching up on some sleep.
Or I just plug into with my iPod and sing my heart out (who cares if people stare)
Mostly though, I just go up to people and introduce myself and get to know them. That's the best part of tournaments--meeting new people.

I do a little bit of everything- listening to my iPod, listening to my duo partner's iPod, eating (Swedish Fish, Rolos, any kind of junk food that I never eat unless at a tournament), staring at the wall, watching other people practice pieces, walking around and try to get lost, playing any piano that is sitting around, making friends with other people in my previous rounds, cards... the list could go on and on...

I speculate and wander around aimlessly with my friends. And sometimes we find a patch of grass and play Frisbee (it looks wayyy more impressive when you wear a suit and play ). But mostly speculation and random shenanigans.

I'm in Congress so my only free time is during lunch or our 5 minute recesses. Therefore my only options are 'stare at the wall' or 'work on speeches.' If a spontaneous game of blackjack or the theatre game 'Freeze' is going on I'll join that. If my lunch schedule doesn't match up with anyone from my school (Since I'm the only congress debater there) then I will spend lunch talking with people I just met or looking at the Interp kids practice to the wall.

Here's a couple of things my school does during our spare time:
1. BIG BOOTY- Best game ever! We stole it from another school and we love it :D
2. Catch Phrase- So much fun with nerdy debaters and clever interps :)
3. Apples to Apples- Even though I'm personally sick of playing it, its always fun with the Speech Family
4. Bop-It- Party Mode with the new Shout It feature makes it even better
5. What If...- So sexual but so enjoyable (That's What She Said)
There's probably more but I'm spacing out :D

Haha, those are some pretty great Ideas, we should start doing them over a North! Apples to Apples gets old, but Catch Phrase and What If are perfect for Debate tourney down-time! Usually we just wander around talking to others, but it gets a little old.

Mao or Mow or however you spell it is fun... So is just wandering around... It gets a little old though. Also, trying to do your make up homework you know will be due the day you get back but not being able to bring yourself to do it :)
