View Full Version : Can oratories still be edited before nationals?
From what I know, all oratories should be postmarked to the NFL by May 1, 2008.
I'm assuming this means that what we send is what we have to do, title, body of oratory, etc.
Does this mean we can't edit any part of our oratory from May 1 till nationals?
Or is it just that the NFL needs the title of our oratory by May 1?
I'm really concerned, because I'm writing a new one and I thought I had more time to revise it if needed..

Disclaimer: Do not actually know.
But it seems rather impractical/unlikely etc that they wouldn't allow you to edit it.

Once you submit your oratory, you cannot edit it. However, up until the due date, you can change your entire oratory if you wish. It wouldn't make sense if you sent in a copy of your oratory about a month before (may 1st) and then at the tournament changed your mind :P It would cause unnecessary problems.

Really? What's the purpose of that?

Well, why would they ask you to turn in a copy in the first place if you can simply change it the next day? They're asking for a copy because they expect you to go by that script; I don't think the NFL office wants over 200 oratories submitted to them on the basis that you can change your entire oo when you want.

Incase you get challenged of some sort, they want to see the script you sent them. For example, if one of your sources gets challenged they need to go to the script you sent them and check your work-cited list. It's mainly to curtail any violations.

I am fairly sure that after May 1st, no corrections may be made. So pretty much you have to stick with whatever you submit. I already submitted mine. I don't think that I will have to make any changes before then.

well, if thats the case, why couldn't you make changes, but as long as you bring citations if the change was an addition of a source? I don't know I mean extemp people have to cite things all the time and naturally that changes every round, but they bring their extemp boxes. I don't think that rule is necessary.
Okay, everyone, thanks. :)
Dang. The due date is Thursday, and my coach needs to send it all tomorrow.
Ouch.

Actually, Since all competitors are expected to bring copies of their Oratories with them to the tournament you may in fact change your script the same way an Interper can chage the cutting as long as you bring the new script with you in case of challenges. The May 1 deadline is for registration purposes, these oratories are simply put in a box.

Ok, that makes a lot more sense. I knew that other thing couldn't be right.
