we vote for officers next week. a little behind, but we didn't vote last year because of some stuff that went down that wasn't a big deal, but my coach decided to hold off til this year, and then she added a few offices because she didn't want to do as much work this year :)

what is a category captain?
DCdisco
09-07-2003, 04:40 PM
For each individual category, the person with the highest seniority (even if someone else has done better, it is the person who'd been in the category longest) gets to be the "Category Captain"
The Category Captain is in charge of setting up the coachings (like, for discussion, we hold mini-discussions and talk about last weeks performance, and this weeks previews). Basically, we just keep track of the competitors in the category. We help out the coaches.
Sorry, I probably just confused you more

ooohhhhhh..... cool! :)
we have two captains: Debate and IE
Captain (ME)
***. Captain (HAHA!! I said ***! Oh wait, I'm the admin, idiot me is)
Secretary
Head Coach and Captain do most of the work, Assistant Captain does a portion and coaches a group of debaters, Secretary does some simple paperwork that I find stupid and therefore have the logical reasoning not to do it.

What does the Historian do?
vertigo_dx
09-07-2003, 07:48 PM
yeah, i was wondering about that too......we only have pres, vp, and secretary, and we just vote for them at the beginning of the year. you get as many votes as you have nfl degrees (1,2,3 etc). so basically the really good people make the decision.

i was historian last year... it was fun. basically, the historian is in charge of taking pictures at every tournament, random times in class, etc of the team and making a scrap book at the end of the year. last year was the first time we did it, and it was fun to look back on everything. this year we have two co-historians (like last year) and one of them is going to make a video for the end of the year to show at the banquet. it's pretty cool

we have:
president
vice president
secretary
treasurer
historian
at mi escuela, the president and historian are really the only ones who do anything. i'm the historian, i'm in charge of taking pics and gathering pics and assembling the scrapbook that will be presented at the end of the year banquet, but i'm devoting a lot more to my job than just taking pics, im making a movie, and doing a lot of other cool stuff for everyone. but at the banquet, all the officers have jobs and such.

Instead of the traditional officers (i.e. Prez, v-p, sec, treas, etc.), for some reason unknown to any of us, our coach many years ago implemented an aristocratic government whereby there is a general president and then a board of 5 other "officers" who execrise various duties. It's not always efficient, and none of us get to put "Vice President in charge of Scoring Points for Interp." on our college apps, but it gets the job done. I'm the unofficial Interp. Captain, a member of the board, and the self-appointed "minister of actually getting things done at meetings." Also, I'm Co-President (with Josh Bone incidently) of the Mass. Forensics League's Student Advisory Board, which as close as I can tell is simply a way to hijack a room after finals and before awards for the upperclassmen to congregate in and make fun of the shody way in which the tournament was run. Fun stuff.

I don't think we even have officers. Just two captains. :? But they do a pretty good job in keeping us all in line or encouraging us to step out of it. Yay Josh and Scott!

We have:
President
VP
Secretary
Treasurer
****All the officers can do points (though I normally do them) and for the first time this year, no seniors are officers. And our coach picks the officers.

Coach pretty much picks officers.
we have only a Captain, little old me this year.
Our Coach didn't think anyone else was responsible enough to do any real work, and she doesn't do anything herself so I pretty much run the team.

god, 111 on your team? I couldn't imagine having that many, our hallway would get really crowded lol. The lders take the classroom, the interpers sit in the hallway in front of it, and the cxers are farther down the hallway. We have president, vice president, points secretary, and public relations officer. All the officers are debaters since all the seniors left last year and we didn't have any junior or sophmores on the team. So the new coach made a junior that joined and did two tournaments before an officer. A little since I know more about it than she does, but next year I will make my rise to power. Muahahaha! I think I get to be one next year, other than me the only other person would be the girl that's done one tournament again or lindsey, which is also a sophmore and has more power than I do so she might become one. I dunno. Then we have Jay, this guy that joined our team last year and is at U of H so he comes to all our meetings and bosses us around. Does make us get stuff done sometimes, and he's on the U of H team so he might come in handy.

Nice, last year I was the unofficial-self-proclaimed captain of a team of 3 people.
I founded a team that has grow to 40-70 students, haven't tabuated the numbers completely yet. Not too bad in 2 years of leadership.

whooo! we have a whole host of new novi! it's exciting to think that we grew a bit. we only have 5 varsity IErs... but we got two new novis and a few debaters wanna try their hand at prose... but i'll make them do poetry.
it's so much fun being VP.
it's really just a title. and i help out whenever. but other than that.... cake. and my best friend is president. so together, we dominate the FHS Forensics team. it's so much fun.
LONG LIVE THE DICTATORS!!

On my team we have 6 officers and returning members elect them at the beginning of each year.
Capitan
Senior Advisor
Chaplain
Statistitian
Librarian (x2)
Capitan, basicly the right hand/wipping boy (lol) of the team. The person we all know we can trust, but all want to kill sometimes. Its the same on all teams I think.
Senior Advisor is like the person who helps out everyone with their pieces and keeps their spirits up and stuff.
Chaplain, team prayer before each tourney, stuff like that. Usually takes on a pretty big leadership role.
Statistitian, keeps track of how many points each member brings in in each tourney. Pretty demanding job actually.
Librarian, keeps records of all the scripts and pieces and who has what checked out and how many copies of each thing we have.

I have no idea how many people are on the team. 40-ish? I dunno. Many people claim to be on the team, however, few come. :(

We have Head Captain, and then captains of different areas, ld, congress, public forum, and IE.
I was IE this year (my junior year), and pretty much did all the head captain stuff because she didn't do um anything.
It has been for the past 4 years atleast, been the kids that voted for captains, but this year, our coach decided that coaches would have a say too, which meant that I would have no position beacuse the IE coach hates me. With a passion,
and no, I'm not bitter. not one bit.

But now I'm captain!

We have a President, VP, Secretary, Debate Captain, and 2 Interp Captains, also at our school each team gets an SGA Rep so we have one of those as well.
i was one of the librarians on our team this year. next year i'm going to try for captain or senior advisor.
as far as captains for individual events, we don't do that. but there are kind of unspoken leaders of different events. like, if you have extemp questions, you'll go straight to rebekah b/c she's the best at it. anyone w/story problems mostly comes to rachel and me. but we don't appoint those or anything.
