Can I please get an opinion on my topic?

I've never done OO before, I used to do PF but I don't have a partner this year so my coach has decided that I get to do OO.

I was thinking about doing it on genetic engineering, the problems that could arise from eliminating diseases, the problems with designer babies, etc.

How do you think this would work out?

I've generally found that the oratories that do the best (awards-wise) deal with sociological problems. That doesn't necessarily mean they're the best speeches, but that's what most judges will be looking for.
I would say your best bet would be linking genetic engineering to a slightly broader topic-for example, how ethics are compromised in the name of science, or vice versa.
Just make sure that the topic applies directly to the audience. If it has no immediate relevance to them, or the judge for that matter, they will tune out immediately.
