When I was working James Logan High School's summer forensics academy several weeks ago they were selling fireworks as a fundraiser. Pretty interesting idea since I'd never even considered it before.

Original but that sounds risky to me. Don't you have to be a licensed distributor to sell stuff that blows up? Seems like there would be a large amount of liability on the part of the school. Kid blows up hand- you know someone is going to be suing the person that sells the hand blower upper..

The twist is- it's a great idea from the standpoint that people will want them because people by nature like to blow things up

I believe that you do have to be licensed to sell those items but evidently around the Union City community selling fireworks is a big fundraiser not only for forensics but for athletic teams as well. There were booths all over the city when I went. I do know that you can't work in the booth if you are under 18 though.

Good question about the liability concern. However, I imagine there is some type of legal framework that could still be manuevered around. I don't recall seeing someone sue a fireworks booth for selling the item, rather they might sue the manufacturer. After all, who has more money?

The other twist of the Union City sales is that fireworks are banned in surrounding areas so everyone flocks into Union City to buy stuff. That's probably why its such a major fundraiser for so many groups there.
