It's all right here......

Congressman Mark Foley, Republican from Florida, resigned today just
hours after ABC news questioned him about a series of sexually explicit
instant messages involving current and former underage male
Congressional pages. Foley used the login name Maf54.

Maf54: Do I make you a little horny ?
Teen: A little. Maf54: Cool.

Foley was the chairman of the house caucus on missing and exploited
children and has long crusaded for tough laws against those who use the
Internet for sexual exploitation of children.

Heh, John Stossel is coming in 3 weeks for a Q&A session with my Economics class... I'll have to ask him if they're doing it.

I found it quite ridiculous that they knew about it for 3 years before he got caught... Craaaaaap...

do you guys think that he will be replaced by a democrat in this next election?

Meho

hopefully not :)

but i think he will be, because sadly people associate him more with the republican party, than they do with being a really screwed up person.

Yes. America isn't smart enough to vote past a D or R. And the R's have been having a tough time of it, lately.

honestly, i don't think that they should have specific parties, because people associate with parties way too much.

Why can't people judge based on that person and their issues and beliefs and not the party.

I don't think that came out coherently, and i do realize the reason that parties are needed. But it frustrates me when people vote republican only because they think they're republican and don't look into how the candidate votes or stands on issues, and the same with democrats.

:(

honestly, i don't think that they should have specific parties, because people associate with parties way too much.

Why can't people judge based on that person and their issues and beliefs and not the party.

Couple of reasons:

1) People are fine with just selecting a party that vaguely represents some ideal they hold dear and then just running with that party for a long time.
2) That organization is needed for people to have some sense of correlation with their values. People will not bother to research a candidate wholly, so they just figure out whether they're liberal or conservative (even if, relative to the rest of the nation, they're the opposite), and vote for the corresponding party.
3) For any party to have power, they must represent one of the two parties in our two-party system, which means these parties polarize values and ethics. (Generally) opposite parties representing opposing values are selected as opposed to libertarian or authoritarian or whatever othe representation of different political theory comes about.
4) Financing is needed to be elected to a major politcal office. This financing can only be provided by the corporations that are political parties.

Whatever. I need to start drinking. Everytime I watch Cable News I just want to shoot myself in the head with a large gun.

Why are parties needed, Meho, do you think?

I agree wholeheartedly....i guess what would be more idealistic for me is:

candidates don't have (democrat) or (republican) by their name....but more of a list of their stance on issues, and their voting reasons.

It would cost a lot more, and take more time....but i think it would be better for people to make decisions off of that...compared to (R) or (D)

but....who knows if that would even change anything.

Who knows, i just think people say "i'm democrat" and fill out an all democrat ballot, when republicans would be better for position, and the same goes for republicans. It's quite ridiculous, because honestly if i could vote, there would be democrats i would vote for instead of republicans.

Despite what has been already said here, I think one reason why people (me in particular) associate the Foley scandal to the Republicans is because the party knew about what was happening and did nothing for 3 years. Now, if Mark Foley was a "virgin" and he got caught his first time, then hey, its a perverted exception. But the Republicans (Hasert, etc.) knew, and thus is the reason why it looks worse for the Rs. Thats just my point of view though.
