I'm working on my second poetry program, and I'm a little worried about how judges are going to recieve it.

It's a compilation of Ani DiFranco songs/poems(she does both) that follow her leaving the man she's with for a woman, and where that relationship goes. They're not compiled like that in her albums----I've gone through the lyrics for six albums to find just the right ones that I can weave together. I love it, but I'm not sure the mom judges will. From what I saw last year, they have a tendancy to like 'safe' topics.

any thoughts?

i think that would be very interesting. as long as the language isn't offensive...

even with trained/experienced judges, you will have some that are uber conservative and are not into the theme(s) of your piece. i don't think that fear should keep you from doing something you have obviously put a lot of time and effort into creating. there are tons of pieces with homosexual themes or undertones these days on the circuit. most judges (mom judges included) i think will look at your performance merit over their feelings about a topic covered in your piece (as it should be).

go for it.
