View Full Version : Life outside of forensics? Tell us!

So, I realize that, especially during the summer, a few of us have lives/interests outside of forensics. Shocking, I know. But I was thinking that since this forum is particularly slow, I thought I'd ask:
What do you guys do besides forensics?
Any other extracurriculars? Crazy hidden talents? Interesting jobs?
What do you do when you're not in a suit?
Hmmmm?

I'm always in a suit. Always.
No, ok, not really.
I just hang out and play a lot of video games. I'm a hardcore nerd. I play Ultimate Frisbee USUALLY on Friday's, but I'm not particularly good at it. It's basically the top 5% of our class that plays, so we aren't very athletic. We just like the company.
I guess I'm pretty boring.

haha, that's awesome. That sounds a lot like the bowling team my senior year. A few of the guys in my class decided to start a bowling team. The girls team was pretty good, but the guys never won a single game, but a friend of mine and I went to almost all of the games because they were just SO awesome about it. The other teams would be all intense and straight-faced and our guys would jump around and celebrate if they got 8 pins down :) By the end of the season we had a good 20 or 30 people going to games, painting our faces the school colors and doing the wave and stuff.

Wow I haven't posted in a while. Excellent topic. I don't really have too many other activities. But among them are;
-Tennis (Watching and playing)
-Golf (Usually playing)
-Playing poker (This is a great hobby to earn cash. If you guys ever have kids, start them gamblng around age 9, 10, to give 'em a head start. Unless they suck).
-Listen to music (I'm one of the few cavemen who still listens to CD players).
-Watching movies (Not often though, I hate having to take a loan out from the bank to go to a ****ing movie theatre, so I just rent...And yes, I have evolved to DVD-USER status).
-Going to amusement parks
And, of course
VIDEO GAMES *Drool*

Other than Speech...hmmmmmm...
I'm really involved with my Youth Group and I go on various missions trips with them (I've been to inner city Chicago, the Bronx, and rural Idaho). I also have been involved with Operation Snowball, a leadership/drug prevention organization in our district; basically, it helps kids become role models for their peers and helps teach kids to make healthy decisions. I've been playing the piano since 1st Grade and I absolutely LOVE it. I also play percussion - I'm in our highest percussion section for our school bands, and I was on drumline my Freshman year (I decided to quit because of speech/theatre commitments). As is the case with a lot of speechies, I'm BIG into theatre, I'll list some of the shows I've done:
--The Wizard of Oz (Wheaton Park District Youth Theatre, the Tin Man)
--Arsenic and Old Lace (Wheaton North Fall Drama 2004, Mr. Witherspoon [Superintendent of Happy Dale Sanitarium]/Mr. Spenalzo [dead corpse, that was fun...])
--Oliver! (Wheaton North Spring Musical 2005, Pit Orchestra)
--Foiled by an Innocent Maid (An Evening of One-Acts [Spring 2005, Wheaton North], Jimmy/Harry Forthwright)
--Guys and Dolls (Wheaton North Spring Musical 2006, Calvin [Member of the Mission Band]/Ensemble)
I also scoop ice cream at Tate's Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Shop in lovely downtown Wheaton, Illinois. And, for a little extra spending money, I walk my neighbor's two dogs. Yeah. That's me in a nutshell.

Well besides spending my life at the speech room at school, speech tournaments, speech camp, and finding and cutting stuff for next year in speech (don't laugh), you might find me dancing ballet, acting (like, in theater) or singing. I also pride myself on my illustrious career as hit-able babysitter to my two younger sisters.
That's it. Speech really takes up too much of my time to do much else, sad as it may be.

A life?
outside of forensics?
is such a thing possible?
Well, I guess it is cause I've been living it for about two years now. I work at a zoo and play video games and try to hang out with my girlfriend as much as possible before i'm off to Western Kentucky (where I'll get back into forensics and cease to have a personal life again).
I can also be seen in some places doing random cartoons and writing. I love to write.

Oh, lately i've gotten into a lot more mountian biking, rock climbing, river kiaking, backpacking, cliff jumping kind of things...that's exciting.
I forgot to mention how I spend almost every saturday at a random school somewhere in the united states/canada in small cramp rooms with 4 to 8 other people my age, 1 to 3 elders, and a chalkboard with lots of funny codes on them...wierd.

You start in Kindergarten and go till you're a senior in High School
Kindergarten you're a Daisy
first through third grades you're a Brownie
Fourth through Sixth grades you're a Junior
Seventh through Ninth Grades you're a Cadet
and Tenth through Twelveth grade you're a Senior
now though they have this really gay thing called studio 2B that they are trying to replace badges with for Juniors, Cadets, and Seniors. It's like fashion oriented and instead of getting badges you get **** like charms for a charm bracelet.
The equivalent to an Eagle Scout is a girl scout who has earned her Gold Award. I'm working on mine right now.

I went up to a Cadet even though all of my friends quit as Juniors. My mom wouldn't let me quit because she was the leader. When she was a girl scout they didn't have the Gold Award, so they let her get an Eagle.

2. Drama club member
3. I study and stuff, 'cos I'm a geek
4. Playing Guitar Hero pathetically and classic video games (Super Mario, anyone?)
5. Reading, and tons of it
6. I dig movies a lot, so I'm frequently watching those
7. Oh, and television, that's good too.
8. Working at a library (seriously, can you get geekier? Especially considering I already included studying and reading as pastimes...oy.)
9. SHENANIGANS

x FFA. The FFA Organization. Okay, Future Farmers of America. I'm pretty much chapter reporter. It's a long story as to why I'm NOT reporter, so we'll just say I was chosen to be reporter, and now I'm acting reporter.
x Choir. I'm in Chamber Choir, the top choir at our school. Right now we're doing madrigals as well, and that's ****.
x Fall Play
x Group Interp/Contest Play- which is starting really soon-- as in we've had auditions and meetings/read thrus are this week.

I know many people, mostly named "My Mother", who wonder what I do in my spare time. I will tell you.
- I work. At an arcade. It's stupid, degrading work but I enjoy video games and I make $0.10 more than what I made doing actual neurological research. That is stupidly pathetic. I may lose my job soon due to a change in management.
- I am graduating with a BS in Biology. THIS IS A HARD DEGREE TO EARN. DO NOT ATTEMPT IT UNLESS YOU HAVE A LOT OF ENTHUSIASM TOWARDS BIOLOGY AND WORKING HARD ON THINGS YOU CAN'T TALK TO YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT BECAUSE THEY WILL NEVER CARE.
- I play a game called "In The Groove" (http://www.groovestats.com/index.php?page=profile&view=quicksongs&id=5529), which is similar to Dance Dance Revolution. I'm pretty good, but some of you may be better.
- I make a lot of music. I play this music on that In The Groove game I talked about earlier.
- I write a lot of stuff. Ask Cinderella about it.
- Oh yeah, I also help coach a debate team (http://www.nflonline.org/points_application/coachprofile.php?id=1235561).

I'm afraid I don't know what you're referring to, and I haven't written in my Xanga for several months, although the link to it is at the bottom of these posts if you want to scan for it. I coudn't find anything.
The story I was talking about was a guy in a cell and just an exploration of where the mind goes when it is confronted with absolute minimalism. (Spoiler: It goes to CrazyTown.)
Cinderella

What do you guys do besides forensics?
Everything. Forensics isn't all in my life; this is my first year on the team. I played tennis last year, but it was a bust. I love reading, drawing, and writing.
Any other extracurriculars? Crazy hidden talents? Interesting jobs?
Hmm.. well my dad is a cop, and sometimes we do this thing where I go undercover to attempt to buy ciggs (he's there with me -- safety reasons, he's undercover, too), to see how easy it is for underage teens to buy them without having an ID. The results are shocking.
But, it's pretty fun, and I get paid. :P
What do you do when you're not in a suit?
Everything! I absolutely despise wearing suits. The're uncomfortable and uncalled for. Or, I could just hate it because our coaches won't let us wear the suits with pants. We always have to have skirts (well, girls, you know). More professional. I love to help with the plays we have. Sadly, we only have two a year. I've helped with all of them so far (I'm only a sophomore) and I aspire to be in them one day. So far, I've done props, costumes, and lighting. My, who knew the drama backstage was so vicious? (see: username)
My friends and I are what you could call the black sheeps of the team. It's kind of sad, actually. It's not that the rest of the team doesn't like us, we just don't talk, is all. At tournaments, during lunch, the whole team will be sitting at one table, and the rest of us will be completely elsewhere.
Really weird.

What do you guys do besides forensics?
- Um, lots. Let's see, I also do Varsity Soccer and maybe Baseball this year. Then you've got Beta Club, FBLA, NHS, EPYCS, and of course forensics. So yeah, I keep busy during school. In the summer, I play sports. Lots of sports. I play tennis, baseball, basketball, soccer, golf, and running to the point that I could probably make the school teams for them if I wanted to. I also play football, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, and mountain biking, but not as much.
Any other extracurriculars? Crazy hidden talents? Interesting jobs?
- When I'm not playing sports or at school, I read a lot. I made a list of 100 books/plays to read before I die, and so far I've read 26 of them. I also climb trees for fun or just do whatever my friends and I feel like doing. Crazy hidden talents? I'm not talented. Interesting jobs? I work as a Little League Umpire, which is fricken sweet. I only get $12/game. That is not so sweet.
What do you do when you're not in a suit?
- When I'm not in a suit, I walk down the path of enlightenment to try and become a better person. And play sports. And screw around on this forum. Ha ha ha.

Forensics is LIFE! I do do other things, though. Problem is that almost every other club/team that I'm on has forensics people on it so my life revolves around forensics.
The only place that is completely forensics free is work. I work at a day camp in the summer and there are no forensics people there, except its at the middle school and I've seen my coach there a lot.

What do you guys do besides forensics?
- I'm part of my school's drama department. I was just in Lend Me A Tenor, and am part of Guys and Dolls. About ninety percent of our team is in the department, which is why a lot don't get many tournaments in. It's such a nice group of people. Bah, I love 'em.
Any other extracurriculars? Crazy hidden talents? Interesting jobs?
- I can do an impression of my AP World History teacher. That's always nice. I know the words to Kanye West's 'Gold Digger'. I used to be a teacher's aide at a summer camp, but they stopped the program.

crazy talents- I can juggle, know a few tricks, and can do passing juggling. Working on learning 4 balls at the moment. I can eat endless amounts of ice cream without getting a brain freeze. I can still talk to people who don't like The Beatles (I consider it a talent. :P But I will convert those people in time... MWHAHA).
What do you do when you're not in a suit?
I usually wear jeans, a T-shirt, and an awesome hat (I love my hats!). You can either find me multitasking (meaning I'm on facebook, Twitter, my email, a news site, a mind-addicting game site, all while listening to either music or a podcast) or out filming a short film.

I usually sport black jeans with some button down and a vest, or something fancy yet semi casual... i've been compared to jonas brothers many many times. I always have the white lacoste shoes though.
