You're kind of amazing.

I also find it helps to go to a local bookstore, grab a bunch of scripts, sit in one of those big leather comfy chairs and read through stuff until something grabs me.

I found this site called www.lulu.com. It's a self publishing site that seems to be pretty legit. Alot of the books have isbn numbers, which I assume makes them acceptable to use. I have no idea if they are any good as far as the quality of the writing. If a self publishing site such as this is legal for competition, could someone write there own script and publish it here to use in competition?

Under the new NFL rules, you don't even need an ISBN. The whole thing is complex and convoluted, so I'd rather not confuse or misinform anyone, but if you want to learn more do what all the cool kids do; read the NFL rules.

Publishing through Lulu can give someone the opportunity to write and perform a piece. As for quality, it depends on the author. Because it is self publishing, there are no controls on who or what gets published so long as they have the money and desire.

Hmmm . . . just the other day one of our coaches warned against things like this: although it may be legit and all that jazz, he pointed out that it's like a slap in the face every time you don't do well. You're giving the judge the ability not only to judge your skill, but to judge (further) your judgement about pieces, and then also they will be critiqueing your ability to write throughout the thing. Over all I think it loses the point of "INTERPRETATION"- to interpret (did I spell that right? It looks funny . . .) what someone else felt, or thought, and wrote.

I think that this kind of thing really hurts interp as a whole, even though it's really tempting.

in my opinion. IF you do write your own piece... and write it well and also perform it well, then I'll give you a good rank cause I'll be impressed... Very impressed. I just think it's a bit shady to do that in an interp event like HI, DI, or Duo. If you write your own story, I'll give you props (and not like stage props...) I respect writers. It's tough to write something and to write it well enough for performance. But you gotta do what you gotta do.
