There's usually a slight bias toward competitiors from the region of the tournament. Not all teams bring their judges from their specific areas, but instead hire people from the region as to not pay transportation fees. These people know that region's style better than the majority of traveling judges. That increase of the host region's judging makes for better odds of regional-style-based success by those from the region. (Hopefully that all made sense)

Unfortunately that did not impact this year as TX actually had 0 DIs in Finals or IX. . .Tx usually has 2-3 in DI FInals not to mention 3 in DUO. . which they dont have this yr. . .so flawed.

Congrats to Mark Isaacson and Tex dawson who are in US Finals and Nicole K in OO!

I would disagree. Texas had the most finalists overall (4) tied with Pennsylvania. California, who usually does very well, had 1 finalist. Minnesota, who has had so much success in recent years, didn't do as well as Texas.

I mean texas didnt do as well as normal.... but it wasn't like other states did better... just there where more states in finals...rather then texas and california dominating!

Also Alex Hardaway and Elizabeth Jordan in duo finals from texas

Nick Steen made quarters.... I got to see one of his performances... and he should have been in semis.... if not finals... totally owned his round!

Congrats on your 3rd place finish, btw! Way to represent the Big South!

Lets not try and get started on bias in this forum, because someone might get offended or something and then as mod of here i'll have to sort it out and thats too much work for me, hehe.

but first in all our hearts!

how was the first place speech/performer anyhow?Typical Apple Valley...She was very well polished. Her speech, however, wasn't very...effective. I don't think I walked out of there wanting to follow through with her topic. It was on gratitude, and she randomly threw in some suicide statistic for dramatic effect. It was random. Nicole had the best written speech, and should have won.

I'm not going to lie and say I thought it was a bad speech..... She was a great speaker... and great speech... just like jordan said....

But she did have a big fluency break..... and some of it seemed forced......

Nicole went into finals 1st.... and her 2nd.....

She won finals by like 3 points.... So nicole barely lost..... 1 or 2 points.....

Oh well....

it was a good speech and she was a good speaker, like zach said. but it seemed that she was so...detached from her speech. ironically, while it was the most emotional speech, it lacked to most heart. i didn't buy the dramatic moments at all. but i can see why her speech appealed to some of the more conservative judges (schwann people etc) in that round.

That's depressing.

Are the final round ranks available to the public yet? ...or do I have to wait for the rostrum to come out?
