Well i'm going to a theatre camp i guess you could call it, or a drama camp would be more like it. But its called Camp Curtain Call in virginia, i was curious to whether or not anyone has gone or not, and does anyone ever go to any other type of these things?

My DUO partner went to one of these things while I was at forensics camp, and I can't say whether it would have been better for her to go to theatre or forensics camp. It can be better or worse than forensics camp.

Worse-- Well, there are some things that you learn in forensics that differentiates it from acting; we call these things "interping." Also, you focus more on finding an actual script and work on your performance as opposed to acting in general.

Better-- I am a sucker for realistic acting. That is why I fell in love w/ performances like Michael Frawley's. These theatre camps focus more on acting technique as opposed to "interping." If applied properly to a DI, realistic acting can be the force that helps you win or lose a tournament.

Which is better? I have no idea, but check out my comments and see if they make any sense or help at all.

I do not know anyone who has been to Camp Curtain Call.

We have six students going to Northerwestern Cherubs Summer Program, 1 to Tisch Experimental Theatre Program, 1 to Boston U Summer Theatre, and 2 to Interlochen,

Three of our State Champions in the last 3 years ..... did Northwestern's National High School Institute Theatre Program, known as Cherubs.

Forensics and Theatre Camps......

each have their values. A lot depends on the specific program.

Just to jump of of Tope's post:

I can't speak for other camps, but realistic acting was a HUGE part of FFI the three years I went there. In fact it was made such a huge part of the curriculum, that I never want to hear the name Stanislavski again. But, acting isn't the ONLY thing that is covered. So the acting parts may not be as in depth as the should be.

I think this is one of those decisions that must be made with you entire future in mind. If you want to have fun and possibly do well/better in forensics and don't REALLY plan to pursue acting go to a speech camp. But if acting is your love and you want to possibly do well/better in forensics, then follow your love and go to theater camp.

But I will say this: You won't get to see Dave Kraft cry at theater camp (True story)...it was an example of emotional recall.

Long story short: Look at what you want to do and make your decision based on that.

And you won't be able to see Brandon Cosby in action (frickin' sick!!).

Uhm, i wasn't actually opening a discussion on theatre vs. forensics, they are two opposite things completly, which is why i'm going to a forensics camp AND a theatre camp, just you know theatre is my major so i'm trying to both, forensics is just a hobby. I just wanted to know if anyone has ever gone to anything like them. :P

I definitely believe both Theatre and Forensic Camps have equal value for different reasons. No, not one over the other. I do believe you can utilize what you learn from each in various endeavors.

I did not think you were asking for one or the other or for a discussion to pit one against the other.

OMG ---- my degree is in Theatre and Communication Arts
Our programs share the theatre and speech arts students. I know some do not, some actually force students to choose between speech, debate, and theatre.

I applaud you for doing BOTH camps. I know this is NOT possible for some students and sometimes the scheduled conflct.

I also agree with other who posted...... look at the camps, look at what you want to be doing, the time schedules, and ultimately follow your dreams, aspirations, goals you set for yourself!!! Each of you has the power within to succeed and EXCEL..... SOAR to new heights!!

Go for it!
