Yeah, me and my partner didn't break out of sems... but that's not why I'm so mad about the duo final. Seth Hunter, from GC Scarborough in Texas, because Kelly McDonald screwed up an email, haad two duos and they both made it to finals. The reason I'm mad is because in the duo flight you can't have any more than one event... which means only one duo. Apparently, Kelly replied to their email asking if it was okay that he have two duos, and he made it sound like it was fine. So if it weren't for that mistake, my partner and I would've been in finals. Son of a *****.

Yeah, that coach from G.C. Scarborough really pushed the envelope on several issues. The was an issue with one of their competitors doing the same piece in both DI and prose. However, the coach argued that it never said in the rules that a person couldn't use the same piece in two events. So, he made it to semis in both. It certainly put a bad taste in my mouth toward that team.

Here in NJ at least... there certainly are rules prohibiting a competitor from using the same piece in Prose and Dramatic Interp.

I did not know that... wow. That makes me feel a little less good about that team, if that's even possible. I think that particular coach did things like that because they have good stuff and were trying to push as much as they could through by manipulating the words of the invitation to fit what they did. Very manipulative and, if I do say so, un-ethical.

I know Carey Shapiro's duo won. They're from Denver East High School.
I know both of Seth Hunter's duos (which was illegal, btw) went 2 and 6.
I don't know who else was in the final... it should be on JoyofTournaments.com soon if it isn't yet.

Shapiro's is called "Sid and Elsie" I think.
One of S. Hunter's duos is called "How to Rent A Negro".
Those are all I remember.

That's legal in Texas.
People use the same piece for their DI and Prose quite often, actually.

That just seems wrong, though. And one of the Hunters (I don't know which one, maybe even both) had a bit of a pissy attitude when they got the 2. They should be happy that they a) made it to finals at asu b) made it to finals at asu twice in the same event, and c) made it to finals at asu in the same event and was able to place 2nd overall.

Yeah, I thought that that was a bit odd having 3 kids make up 2 duo teams. (I understand why people thought it was messed up --but I personally thought it was kinda cool).
I saw Hunter in Drama, and I must say that it was Amazing.
Fun tournament --congrats to Desert Vista, what an amazing show from one school. Talk about destroying a tournament!

I'm guessing the reason that Chris was upset with 2nd place is because he got 4th in the nation last year and wants to do better this year, but that's just a guess.

Oh yeah trent... I hit Seth in DI 2nd round and he just blew me away. I knew he would be in finals, but I placed him in the top 3... he was great though.

They do that at EVERY tournament. I don't think I've been to one that they haven't won. Unless they're not there. And if they're not, it's kinda like you didn't have the best competition.

Exactly. I think the real competition is for 2nd place, as it is always different. Ahh, AZ forensics.

As far as pieces are concerned, the Hunters from G.C. Scarborough did "Jitney" They did an excellent job. I know they qualled to finals. Also in finals were Ismail/Miller from Dobson performing "Expecting Isabel" They also did an excellent job. I can' remember any others, sorry.

I was just glad to be at that tournament --it really helps to see REALLY GOOD performers, so I know what I can work on and such. Plus it was just a fun tournament.

I know that the Duo team of O'Neill-Frye from Kent Denver made it to finals. Their piece is called "Defending the Caveman", and they got fourth. Did anyone see it?
there was some really wierd happenings at ASU,
i know that personally in P.F. we should have broke to double-octafinals but our first ballot got screwed up and it gave the other team the win
(as in the judge clearly voted aff, but switched around the codes)
and i went with Colin West..... who ended up winning NX, which wasn't that big of a suprise tho
