I definately think that the duo finals round was EXCELLENT! It was the first finals round of duo I'd ever seen and I was greatly impressed. Every duo in that round deserved to be there (despite some opinions) because each brought something innovative and creative to the category while maintaining the common basics of duo interp as a category. The round persuaded me to try duo next year!

Yes... I must agree... this is the best duo round I have ever seen and yes all of them deserved to be there... although there were a few others i saw in semis that i wish could have been there ALSO... but you can only have 6 and they were the best 6... HI was good too... but last years HI round was spectacular... it could not compare to the quality of all the pieces last year... :P And I am sure DI was great but I was sooo tired when i was watching it that I can give no opinions on it... 8)

I think why many people were not impressed with the Drama finals is because of the horrible venue that they were in. Historical significance aside, there are a million places better suited for a finals round then a church. However, I personally think while the quailty of the Duo round was better overall, Thomas Finley provided the best performance in ANY interp catagory for all time. Nothing I have ever seen even comes close to that. **** he was good.

OOO he was...but I still liked his HI from last year the best.. all three of them have been good... obviously... they were top three in the nation good for the last three years... so that tells you something... But this duo round was amazing... if i had to compare this years duo to last years HI... then I would have a tough choice... but duo wins hands down for this year! And agreed on the chruch thing... that was so dumb... did you see OO finals... the girl that went last looked almost angelic bc the sun was coming in thru the huge windows and illuminating her... thats gonna look so terrible on the tapes! ICK!

i didn't see last year's final. what HI piece did tom do? i've heard it was better than nick's "stories." opinions? and was it better than his own "maggie" this year?

I would TOTALLY AGREE with the statement that last years HI piece that Tom FInley did WAS better than this year.

His piece last year was an absolutely BRILLIANT cutting of

"And the Dish ran away with the Spoon" by Janet Stevens and Susan Stevens Crummel (available at amazon.com).

anyways, his interpretation was a lot funnier last year. If it were up to me, i would have switched titles. Tom last year, Nick this year.

Anyways, that was his piece.

what does it matter, though

Thomas Finley should have won last year for sure. The only reason he didn't is because he got screwed in his semi round. He lost by one point and got 1-3-1-7-1 his semi round. I know who gave him the 7 and it is and absolute travesty.

Yeah... well they gotta give it someone... just a shame it had to be him... the kid that got 7th place last year missed finals by 2 points... thats all and his 13th round scores were 7-4-7-4-7.... and he still got 7th place... just goes to show people have weird opinions and HAD one judge just change that score a little bit... things would have been really different...
But... back on topic... i still this and the dish ran away with the spoon was the best HI of all three... He was sooo creative with it... I mean come on... Dog was the funniest thing in the world.... I agree he should have won last year... but i also think he should have won this year... just me tho! :D

that would have been cool, had he won two years in a row.....

its just braggin rights for all of us up in the far north in Minnesota

(even though Eagan, Eastview, and Apple Valley consistantly send good, finals-quality competitors to Nationals) 8)

I have never heard of east view... but i have been to nats for the past three years... and eagan and apple valley have always had someone in a main event final round... apple valley has had an oo for the last 3 years... and eagan... WOW... John Eagan and Tom Finley... and Whitney too... they are just amazing! Yeah, always quality stuff! :P

And i wish i could remember what they are strong in.......sorry ,this is only my second year...lol

Yeah, Eagan and Apple Valley are always vying for "best speech team in Minnesota" :D

I think the funniest part of these big schools is the fact that, because they are metro, and mine is rural......ok, here's an example. In my category, discussion, we had environment as our topic for the year...its quite hilarious to see these city slickers trying to tell ME how a farm works, and how a farm affects a community...... CLASSIC!

Anyways, you're right cara. And Tom is definately my favorite from MN. 8)

If i had to vote between Apple in Eagan.... it would be Eagan all the way... John Eagan was a sophomore when Tom was in 8th grade... his soph year he won HI at nats... his junior year, he won DI... his senior year (my first year at nats) he took 3rd in OO and Tom took 3rd in HI... then AV... Megan Bartle took 2nd in OO and in DI... Last year, Tom was 2nd in HI, Whitney and her partner were Champs, and AV's Emily Simones was 2nd in OO and 4th in HI, and then that girl was a champ in DI... Then of course this year Tom wins HI, him and Whitney 3rd in Duo, Whitney 2nd in DI, USX Champ... and AV had 3rd I think in OO and i know they had a girl take 4th in Expos... so yeha... both are amazing! But I would say that Eagan wins it all!
