Is it worth it?

I have the option of going to a Model UN tournament at Vandy the same weekend where there will be a cool dance party with my friends, and by far the hottest chick in South Florida, or I could go to UF and sit under a potato. Unless I'm guaranteed to win IX, I'm probably against the idea of going.

Who's going?

What's is the breaking/judging criteria?

I heart Blue Key.

blue key is really a great tournament, and you wouldn't just be going there to "sit under a potato." as far as i know, we don't grow potatos in florida.

but really, it's a fun tournament and probably more prestigious than the model UN thing you're talking about.

...he means that big potato rock thing...that my teammates and I named Frederick my novice year, incidentally my first tournament.

The giant rock at Turlington Hall is accepted by UF students to be a potato.

GO TO BLUE KEY. WORD.

I'll be back for BK #4 in OI and either OO or DI, whichever I feel more motivated to do.

If i am not mistaken, Blue Key is the next big one on the list (cept for st. marks of course), does anyone know when the RR competitors will be announced?

Oh I dunno, probably in about a week or so; that's when I recall they have in the past. And oh yeah -- WTF? last BK, this is really odd. As usual, keepin it real in DX and FX, and trying to improve on double third place from last year. Yeah right; I won't even make finals in both, who am I kidding?

I wish I HAD a Blue Key. That way I would be unlocking my door with it, and people would be all, "Wow, where did you get that cool blue key?" And I would be all, "Where DIDN'T I get this cool blue key?" Before quickly locking my door behind me to avoid further questions.

Congrats!! Interesting Results... most of the material has been done before, but this is the norm for speech. It is very difficult to find material that has NEVER been attempted one time in the history of forensics across the nation. I just find it interesting that two conflicting facts still remain.

CONFLICTING IDEAS
1. Many Speech kids are quick to denounce material as "overdone" or "old".
2. Many Speech kids end up using material that has already been done.

CONCLUSION

Even though speech kids do not like when material, which they believe is overdone, is used, much of this material still goes far.

2nd in Duo was Sam Halls and some other guy. Halls and Cattaneo won duo there last year (fun fact).

SAM POWER!

Fun Fact:
the other guy is the other member of the AMAZING Team Eyesore...Steven Sloan!!!

BTW: My congrats to Sam and Steve for doing my legacy proud, Kelly, Sam Dunn, Noah "I can get third at a local but OWN Blue Key DX and FX" Gentele, Alex Weisman (I seriously cannot fathom the depth of your mantle), NICEVILLE!!!!!, and pretty much everyone I love. I may be a moron at Crestian!!

I_Suck_At_Extemp
11-02-2005, 06:51 AM
I certainly think that the extemp kids deserve some screen time as well, so:

DX

1. Noah Gentele, Pine View
2. Austin Seigel, Spanish River
3. Varun Hippalgoanker, Lake Highland Prep
4. Charlie Metzger, Suncoast
5. Shaz Jafri, Lake Highland Prep
6. Ben Myers, Atlantic

FX

1. Charlie Alderman, Scarsdale
2. Drew Everson, Mauldin
3. Noah Gentele, Pine View
4. Charlie Metzger, Suncoast
5. Jordan Rubin, Lake Highland Prep
6. Grace Adamson, King

Congrats to Charlie -- Alderman for winning, Metzger for making both finals as a sophomore, WHOA. That's quite an accomplishment. Also my undying love to Sam and Steve for continuing Pine View's tradition of having at LEAST one amazing duo every year for the past three years. A hearty good job to Austin for pulling himself up from 36th place.
That was wierd; my last Blue Key.

have they posted the schematics yet? i can't seem to find it posted on the blue key website. if not, anyone know when?

I think congrats are in order to noah for rising from 35th seed in both DX and IX to 1st and 3rd respectively. You definately earned it. Also congrats to Alderman, Metzger(for finaling in both events as a sophmore), Varun (for getting 3rd), and Drew for great finals speeches.
Now, onto my semis ballot that kept me from IX finals:
"your speech was among the best in the room, and you are a talented speaker who will go far. I would've given you a higher rank, but you arent comfortable being observed and I dont feel you are ready to make a final round because of it. better luck next year".......gotta love mommy judges....[/i]

MauldinDebater
11-03-2005, 02:48 PM
I had a judge in finals that gave me the six, said I showed that "I did not know as much about the topics as others in the room" in cross ex, said my "diction" should be improved to fix my fluidity. Yay for judges who freakin hate your speech.

Huge congrats to Noah for 1st and 3rd, Charlie Metzger for double finaling, Charlie Alderman for winning IX and all of the other finalists. That includes you Austin (36th my ***).

I realize I'm a little late but my love goes out to Kelly Bahlke for being my number one diva and SAM AND STEVEN from Pine View for REPRAZENTN' in Blue Key Duo Finals and continuing a chain effect of sorts. For those interested in some forensics trivia, James placed 2nd in 2003, James and Sam won last year, and Sam placed 2nd this year....woot 4 PV.
