Well, it's summer, and for many forensics kids, that means it's time to go to camps. So let's talk about 'em!

I never went to camp myself, so I'm curious not only about who's been and if it's helped, but what exactly goes ON during the camp.

Everyone who's been to camp can post about their experience, or anyone who has questions about camp in general can post them in this week's TotW. Also remember, there are individual camp forums in the main forum index.

Also, Happy 4th of July!

last summer i attended camp at western kentucky university. it was a great experience. i met so many people and made some really really good friends. and since i'm competing for them next year, it helps me to know that i've already got some friends on the team, having worked with them so much. i also know that campus a bit more than i did from just attending tournaments there.

and i did learn a bunch. even though i ended up not using the piece i got at camp, working on that d.i. helped me out when i got my solo later in the year. characterizing came easier for me after camp. and being surrounded by so many dedicated forensicators was a kind of boost for me. i felt i was able to work better in that environment. there were always tons of people, both peers and couselors, to give advice and opinions if you were stuck or confused about something in your piece. and i learned how to cut, too, which you'd think i would have known after doing speech for three years prior to camp. but no, i discovered how little i actually knew about cutting a piece down to time.

anytime you get an opportunity to attend speech camp, go for it. i only wish i could have attended more than once.

I went to camp in San Marino last year, there is a camp at my highschool this year, but I can't go, since I will be out of the country.

And aparently, Natalie Sintek is gonna be there to coach H.I.'s, or something like that (rumor?)

If it's true, I'm pretty pissed I'm not going.
