This may seem like a bit of a dumb question, but I'm a podunk little town colorado extemper with little knowledge about how the national circuit works. I would like to attend the following tournaments next year, but I don't know if I have to be invited or if I can simply register and compete.

Harvard
Stanford
Arizona State

Also, is Extemp TOC going to be at Northwestern again?

Thanks again guys.

I know that you can register online for both ASU ( www.joyoftournaments.com/az ) and Harvard (harvard-debate.org) I'm not sure about Stanford. registration for ASU should start about mid-november. About the same time for Harvard.

The Montgomery Bell Round Robin but it's only a policy/LD/extemp tournament.

Stanford isn't invitation only, they usually have the info posted on joyoftournaments.com and they're really super helpful with any questions you might have about going as an independent entry.

Hey Spence
I rememebr being confused by that too... but as it turns out almost ALL tournaments are open to people like us; the only notable sxceptionas (as have been pointed out) are the biggies: MBA, TOC, and NFL's (duh).

When a Tournament like HAravard says it's an "Invitational" it really just means that you have to register in advance and wiht a school... no "maverick" competitors who show up wihtout being affiliated with a team (note that this doesn't mean you have to BRING a team, lol, just have one).

Stanford is a great oturnament on a gorgeous campus, with mid level extemp competition, you'd enjoy it and do well. ASU I think I might be going to with rocky next year, so that'd be sweet. HArvard is on my wish list, because it and Berkely (usually the same weekend) are two of the strongest and best known tournaments... but as a resuly they are very expensive. hopefull yI will get to go to one of those next year too.

good luck finding some big tourney's to go to; hope to see you at some of them!

better still, let's get some bids (jut one, I guess, we got one from NFL) and I'll see you at TOC!
