well? what are some of the weirdest program ideas you guys have thought up but didn't think would work? also, what kinda poetry programs would you like to see performed that you've never seen before?
for example, i would like to see something like a program on mythological icons that has stuff like bigfoot in it, lol. and maybe it could just why we have these legends and myths of such characters. that would rock my socks.

Last year, my poetry was an exerpt from a Viking saga. I though that I would do better with it than I did. Unfortunately, it was hard to overcome the "I have no idea what you're talking about" problem. It's pretty wordy. This (http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/Lagoon/7152/edda/eddas.html) isn't the exact translation that I used, but it's similar enough to give you an idea of how complicated the peom is. I still think I could have had some more success if only I had performed it better (It did supply me with two last place tropies from two very small tournaments).
I would like to see someone more talented do justice to the piece. If anyone i s interested, the Henry Addams Bellows (http://www.northvegr.org/lore/poetic/001_01.php) translation is slightly less confusing.
Good luck to anyone brave enough to take on the challenge.

well if you want to do something concerning a mullet, maybe do a program on hair in general, or hair styles, and let the mullet poem just be a little facet of the program.
the amazing thing about poetry is that ANYTHING can be a program. couple of ideas off the top of my head
1. the gloryfication of struggling(ghetto fabulous anyone?)
2. the place of the native american in western civilization
3. new forms of counter culture
4. political critique through verse
5. political powers co-opting movements
6. political powers politically spinning tragedy to reify their own agendas.

i am in love with programs that are based on sound or music. That's what mine was about last year, and it was great. So if you can beat box, sing, or scat...that would be awesome. Goodbye

My Program last year was on isolation. I like'd it a lot, but would've hoped to have done better with it.
And on a side note... Broski09, are you Joe Muller from Texas? It's freakin' Andy, man.

no, and even if it is, do it anyway. and youd better do it well
NO! don't conform to the normative assumptions of program writin. create a counter culture of critical programs that incorporate powerful narratives and alternative writing forms to coerce the vast assemblages of drones to unplug.

a program i enjoyed a long time ago dealt with the seven deadly sins. what an interesting concept -- i'm surprised i haven't seen more programs on that topic.

Acutally Jman, Joe Guffey, while he was at Shadow Mountain High School in Arizona, did a program on mullets, we have a showcase video of it, it's so badass.

I've been toying with a program pretty much arguing that because conservatives have traditionally been in power and poetry is used as a form of social resistance there's not a ton of conservative poetry out there. This, howoever, does not mean that it is any less worthy than liberal poetry.
Either that or how Howard Dean is an idiot. :]

Jose,
"not a ton of conservative poetry out there"-- you're right. I may be the only one.
