Well, person who randomly searched the Disco board. The Big 9 conference is a group of...10 schools in Southern Minnesota. Mankato East and Mankato West are the best teams in it.

Mankato is a 2nd tier town with about 55,000 people while Minnesota State University, Mankato (and their 4-peat Forensics State Champion team) is in session. The town, and it's counterpart, North Mankato, are located where the river "bends" to make a V-shape in southern MN. For more info, just Google Mankato!

Big 9 was great this year, with Kim Braun taking 1st in Disco (by far!!!!).

Results:
1. Kim Braun (1. 100 1. 100 1. 99, I believe) Mankato West
2. Cady Nicols Mankato East
3. Tsesa Monaghan Mankato West
4. Sean Maertens Mankato West
5. Paul Moore (In my defense, I still competed with a 102 degree fever) Rochester John Marshall
6. Michael Manansala Rochester John Marshall

What was bigger was the fact that after years of Mankato West and East taking 1st and 2nd respectively (and John Marshall taking 3rd), John Marshall took 2nd this year!

I do beg your pardon, but this was the FIRST time in three years that West has beaten East.

So let's watch where we're putting thoese respectivelies, eh?

What the deuce!?

That is true. Of my four years in speech, East won Big 9 three of them (I graduated last year). So this year was it West, JM, East?

I apologize...I am a junior, and my freshman year it must have been East, West, JM, and I am pretty sure last year it was West, East, JM. This year, it was West, JM, East. With West blowing JM and East out of the water, and JM beating East by a considerable margin (I believe).

I could get Team Sweep Results from my coach, if you'd like.

Last year East was first and West was second. Big 9 went like this for winner of team sweeps:
2005:East
2004:East
2003:West
2002:East

2002:EastOkay, sorry about the mixup. I don't know why there was such a slip, I've heard the East team is quite a bit smaller than last year (on top of the fact that JM's team is much stronger than pervious years...funny, because our #s dropped quite a bit), but I don't know. Maybe you know Aaron.

By the way, I discussed with you several times my 9th grade year. Being easy prey as a freshman and feeling completely alienated from the category, I went into Extemp. Speaking my 10th grade year, and am now back in Disco...have to say I really missed it last year. Congrats on your 2nd place finish @ State last year.

I prefer to list the winners by what the school would have been named had the hippies had their way. Please note that East and West beat out the following names by 1 vote.

2005:Sunrise High
2004:Sunrise High
2003:Sunset High
2002:Sunrise High

Anyhoo, Big 9 is always kinda crazy. Good job to all. Numbers are down across the board, we just need more people in the activity.

Hahaha Dave, I did not even know that Mankato fact.

Paul- Thanks for the belated congrats. I am really sorry but I don't remember you, but in my defense it was two years ago and I bet if I looked at a flow from the round I would be able to remember you for sure :) Hopefully I was nice to you in our round. Congrats on making it to state and good luck. A bit of advice for the state tournament, that was passed on to me from the great Ashley F., "Try to relax during the round because it is real easy to worked up and look like you are constipated the whole time," or something along those lines, I just remember that it helped me out a lot after my first round.
