I LOVED The Chicken Heart that Ate New York City. It didn't break for CFL Nationals, which was a huge surprise, but it's a great piece anyway. I loved how it was just good, clean fun. It was refreshing.

Plus, it's Bill Cosby. How can you go wrong with the Cos?

Complain about your entire cultural history, host a stupid show where kids talk about nothing, and almost get sued for rape...

But he's a funny guy. :P

Congrats to the Illinois finalists; however, I really hate to see 2 "abridge" pieces among the state's best. God I hate those things. On the other hand, I would love to see the cutting for Oh Brother.... that was a really great flick. Batboy is, dare I say, a bit over done.

Oh...then...let me be the first! I name that guy, Jeff...Something! I saw him at Harvard Finals and he was friggin hilarious.
BTW, does anyone the pieces and competitors from HI finals?

SniffyGuy
02-23-2005, 10:59 AM
Its Jeff Moscaritolo actually, and thanks a heap 8)

And yeah, I know the HI finals results (all of which are pieces to watch out for in future tournaments, btw)

1. Jeff Moscaritolo - "Rinse the Blood off my Toga"
2. Shane Allen - "Poisoned Kool-Aid"
3. Connor White - "Freddy in Peril"
4. Ryan Gaumont - "The Buck Falcon Chronicles"
5. Michael Frawley - "Wigfield"
6. Amy Hoffman - "What Would Betty Do?"

P.S. I don't think Connor White has been mentioned yet, who was probably the cleanest performer in the round, and his characters, especially Sir William the cat, are excellent.

6. Amy Hoffman - "What Would Betty Do?"AMERICA'S BEST CHRISTIAN AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! I LOVE HER!! but it did get quite annoying after a while..how great was her eminem?!?!

Conner and Shane were okay, but Jeff completely owned Harvard finals. His characterization was amazing, and he got big laughs from his delivery, not just jokes in the script. Nobody's performance even came close.

Ryan
02-23-2005, 02:44 PM
I first saw Connor perform in quarters and then later in finals. His quarters performance (where he beat Noah Cantor's Squee and Ryan Houston's Of Grapes and Nuts) was better than his finals performance. I thought though that his creation of environment for Freddy was great. Between the water dripper and the wheel, he really formed that cage in our minds.

SniffyGuy
02-23-2005, 02:50 PM
It also kinda sucked that Connor had first speaker position, because as soon as he finished probably about 20 to 40 more people came into the room and began filling the aisles. The kid is brilliant technically though. Not a movement out of place.

His characterization was amazing, and he got big laughs from his delivery, not just jokes in the script. Nobody's performance even came close.

I wouldn't say that's true, Jordan. Practically Shane's entire piece is character humor. He nailed that "tricky *****" line every time he said it. And besides, there was only a two point difference between the two of us in that round.

Connor has the best tech that I've seen--That scary face was freaking hillarious, and we can't forget Sir Williams beat boxing skillz--"Gu-gu-gu-gu-gu-good evening." Best beat boxing EVER. My little brother hit him at ASU finals and has a little beat boxing section in his piece, and he performed right after Connor. When he was watching Conner, he looked over at me and said, "Fool, I don't wanna ebat box in my piece anymore."

But I agree, the piece is not as good as he is. He is an amazing interper, but the piece, though original (in disagreement with his intro), is not up to his skill level.

02-23-2005, 07:59 PM
So I just have a question for any of you guys who saw Crestian finals. What did you guys think of that guy who did the Promenade All? The one with the girl on the ladder? Funny? Iffy piece?

SniffyGuy
02-23-2005, 08:26 PM
I thought the kid was very talented but had a few basic problems that could be ironed out.
1) The piece is kinda gross. But thats my own preference. It still is pretty funny. I think its better suited for someone with less skill than himself.
2) His pops needed to be cleaned up a lot.

Other than that, he was pretty good.

Btw, 4n6man, that kid, Kevin Kurasch, is that you?

Of course he was right. I have yet to meet a nice one.

BTW, did anyone hit Tarikh (I Ain't Yo' Uncle), Louis (The Wiz) or Matt (Soap Opera) at Harvard? I didn't get the chance to see any of them and I'm interested in knowing how they did.

SniffyGuy
03-01-2005, 10:35 AM
I believe Tarikh octo'd (not positive on that) and there was a kid doing the wiz in my quarters round. He didnt pick up though, but it was a really good round. I don't know who matt is... but you can check all those results at www.harvard-debate.org to make sure.

Tarikh made it to quarters.

Ryan
03-01-2005, 08:28 PM
Ya I hit Tarikh in DI in round 4 and saw his HI quarters round. Pretty good stuff. His HI was a bit too college in terms of his excess of social significance and lack of comedy - exactly the reason why he dropped there. I think I may have hit Louis round 4 of HI (a guy doing the wiz came up to me later and seemed to be hanging out with Tarikh). Bit too much singing and movement if it was the same one. Both guys were very nice though, especially Tarikh.

Carl Hulden, from Moorhead HS in Minnesota, he took 10th in HI last year with Removing the Glove.. his HI is incredible this year, just beat out Abrahjeet Roy, Elodie Lee, and Ben Huth this past weekend at Lakeville. Easily the best i've seen this season.

i was really really impressed with the Muller brothers from Elkins

Joe Muller - Drugs Are Bad (2nd at State)
Jordan Muller - Episode 26 (Quarters at state, but should have been in finals or at least semis)

they will be packin heat at nationals as well as several of the other state semi finalists in HI

poonan
03-10-2005, 10:51 PM
Back on target here, we all forgot the man who led the state in HI points...Mr. Jeff Johnson finished the year with 60 points or something like that and although he didnt break out of prelims at state, he should have. Don't even think of overlooking Jeff. He does an awesome Robin Hood...although i am still quite upset because i have not seen Along Came the Rain King.....

SniffyGuy
03-16-2005, 01:35 PM
See al, whats funny is that you're raving about how amazing itll be if NJ has ONE finalist this year, when there are states like minnesota and texas who had more than half the finalists and semifinalists in HI at nats last year. Woot for NJ

BenderIhardlyevenknowher
03-16-2005, 01:56 PM
