Maybe I'm going out on a limb here, but are any of Kentucky's extempers planning on (or wanting to) attending the Extemp Tournament of Champions at Northwestern University in Chicago from May 13 - 15?
You must apply to attend, and fees are $120 per slot.
Hopefully, I'll be traveling with my coach, but if someone wanted to go, we could split room costs and make the financial burden easier on everyone.
Anyone interested?

Quentin Johnson was talking about it a few weeks ago. I'm not for sure if he's still planning on going.

I'm interested. If Q is still interested, I'm sure Spencer would be (and it'd be great for him to do for prep for next year.)

I'm considering going, I think it sounds pretty cool, are coach recieved a brochure about it maybe two weeks ago. I think Matt Ray from Graves was considering going too. I will probably go depending if I am "invited", I am going to have to send in an at-large bid since I only have one (WKU) of the two tournaments that count to get quallified, but I did here that almost everyone gets accepted. I guess we can just see how things work out, but it sounds fun...KY extemp roadtrip?

I never attended the TOC but I know that you can get a bid from making the finals of your state tournament (which in KY I think could be split between KHSSL and KESDA?!?!). Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that Quentin or anyone else can try to qualify by breaking into finals @ KHSSL/KESDA and not have to worry about the at-large bid qualification or the "you have to break at these two tournaments" qualification.

Well, would outrounds at NCFL, NFL, and Emory count for the "two tournament" method?

Yes.

My plan is to go ahead with the at-large bid, since the due date before the at-large bid is before either of the state tournaments. This makes perfect sense from their financial point since any at-large bid must come with $25, so if I do go to KHSSL finals considering Graves will not be going to KESDA this year, then thats $25 dollars waisted, but at-least I would be automatically accepted. So I suggest that everyone, well except for you Brice since you have the both of the tournaments needed, send in an at-large bid and just hope for the best at state.

Alright,
I'm sending in my at-large bid hopefully by the end of the week. I just want to know if anyone can help me out with something...
Does anyone still have their schematics from Calloway, Bethlehem, Bardstown, Harrison County, Assumption, or Campbell County? I'm trying to figure out how many extempers were at those tournaments, so I can finish filling out the application....
Thanks y'all!
(Man I wish we had gone to the other WKU tourney, and that I could have gone to the 1st one.. grr... mutter.. bitterness... more muttering)

go anyways, and claim your on a college visit. There are a few schools in the area you could have sign it. Just don't tell them you competed, and don't announce your awards. (Technically my school didn't go to a competition, and so they didn't announce our two first place congress persons, our third place, our 4th place, or our 5th place... or was it two 5th places?)
My point is, it can be done.

Here's the way it works for me:
Since my Extemp. coach, Mr. Cecil, is taking me there, it is officially excused by my school, since Mr. Cecil is a "school representative." Neither the school nor the team is paying my way, I am.
If you're caught lying to the school, you could be in serious trouble (not that I haven't done that to go to tournaments before, of course). Try to con a coach or favorite teacher to go with you. If that doesn't work--sneak away.

problem is, even if i pay my own way, the district doesn't want to pay for my COACH for however long it is, and they won't let me go with my mom. even though really, i cant do the college visit thing because i would lose exam exemptions.
