I have been researching the career records of various recent speech tournament winners and started building a list of my top career speechies. I looked at the NFL records and have developed a list for top senior speech competitors (excluding extemp and OI). The things I looked for were prolonged success in HI, DI, DUO, or OO. For seniors this meant success at a minimum of 2 national tournaments. There are so many NFL competitors that I am sure this list is missing some big names, so feel free to add in your two cents.

Class of 2005
1) Princeton Armstrong, Denver East CO - 3X National Qualifier - 242 pts
2) Kathleen Hession, Iowa City West IA - 3X National Qualifier - 206 pts
3) Connor White, Albuquerque Acad NM - 2X National Qualifier - 149 pts
4) Michael Frawley, Holy Ghost Prep PA - 2X National Qualifier - 142 pts
5) Cory Stewart, Eastview MN - 2X National Qualifier - 140 pts

Class of 2006
1) Alex Weisman, University School FL - 2X National Qualifier - 167 pts
2) Chloe Hall, Albuquerque Acad NM - 2X National Qualifier - 129 pts
3) Abhrajeet Roy, Eagan MN - 2X National Qualifier - 104 pts

As I conducted my research, it became so obvious how hard it is to rack up points in speech compared to debate and congress. I think they give out points in debate for breathing!!

Anyway, if you know of any folks deserving of inclusion on this list, speak up, but include their numbers also.

There is definitely 1 major person missing from that list.

Class of 2005
Monique Robinson, Fort Lauderdale FL - 3X National Qualifier - 186 pts

A couple notables from Class of 2006 are Brian Britigan(78 pts) and Kelly Bahlke (72 pts). Both have only qualified once each, but breaks to quarters are quite potent.

Thanks Basaltrock for your revision; I am sure there are others. The NFL membership records page is cumbersome to get around in, so if you know of others share their names! As a note, I omitted extempers and debaters. This is a speech table only.

Revised Class of 2005
1) Princeton Armstrong, Denver East CO - 3X National Qualifier - 242 pts
2) Kathleen Hession, Iowa City West IA - 3X National Qualifier - 206 pts
3) Monique Robinson, Ft Lauderdale FL - 3X National Qualifier - 186 pts
4) Connor White, Albuquerque Acad NM - 2X National Qualifier - 149 pts
5) Michael Frawley, Holy Ghost Prep PA - 2X National Qualifier - 142 pts
6) Cory Stewart, Eastview MN - 2X National Qualifier - 140 pts

Regarding Britigan and Bahlke, they are both awsome. Kelly does the coolest tech for a DI peice that I have ever seen and Brian is just funny, in a really funny sort of way. However, I had an even harder time with 1 time qualifiers because I was looking at prolonged success. This is more of a cross country race than a sprint. Now if both break to quarters at Nationals again this year, they will be hard to omit from a senior list next year.

I know that Kansas doesn't get out much, however I think that some people should be included. For example:

Ben Tyson, Remington KS - 3X National Qualifier - 207 pts

Please forgive me but I really get into this stuff....

I checked out the scoring rules for interp events at the National tournament to try and figure out what is the most NFL points a person could earn in an interp event at Nationals. Assuming that the person is scored first by every judge in every round they could earn 139 points for competing in a single event (9 points per round in rounds 1-6 and 10 points per round for rounds 7-13, plus a 15 point bonus for winning first place) To put this in perspective, Natalie Sintek was awarded 128 NFL points for taking first in HI at last year's Nationals.

Conversely, the fewest points you could earn by coming in last in every round would be 30 NFL pts. (5 points in rounds 1-6). If you go 6 rounds and out at Nationals, which about 2/3 of the contestants do, you can earn more points by entering supplemental events. As a matter of fact, many competitors who don't break and then do modestly well in supplementals will earn more points than competitors who break to quarters in a main event.
