Does anyone have info about Berkeley? Has your team gotten an invite yet? I'm thinking I may try to go but I don't have any info on it.

Thanks

WOW!! I just looked at the entries and great interp schools like Eagan HS , Iowa City West HS , and James Logan HS are coming....I wonder if this year will be bigger than last year though... :D :o

Eagan and Logan both went to Berkeley last year. ICW didn't do Harvard or Berkeley last year since their NFL Districts were held that same weekend. Expect a great duo of "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" and two great HIs of "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadda" and "Little Me." Expect those 3 in finals easy, if not taking the win.

ok this tournament is coming up in two weeks, what is everybody competing in.. i will be judging, but i am taking a student in DI and OO her DI is bums, but her OO has yet to be written, i know not a cool thing to do a week before Berkely which is when she will probably write it because she has to compete at state quals the week before Berk.
Chris have you found your duo yet? what is it? who is it with?

I heard that Iowa City is only taking a very small speech team, but Britigan and Hession will be there in Duo and HI. They are also bringing policy and LD teams.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It registration is on Friday night (just 3 days away) and Competition starts on Saturday (just four days away)...hmmm, i hope my student that im taking does well...yes it will be fun to judge at this tournament. I hope i dont get stuck with Extemp as i really have no idea what the **** it is, i mean i do, but i've never done/judged it...it wouldnt be fair because i think it is a TOC isnt it? hmmm, i think i want to get a taste of all the interps...especially out-rounds...that will be fun.
Hopin got judge out-rounds of DI, DUO, OO, and HI? maybe, im not really a fan of HI unless its something like Long Beach Semis where i laughed my *** off..."diary of a worm" ROCKS! Anyways good luck to all.

I find it interesting how intense this tournament is in interp, but yet the people who run it do not care about individual events. I mean the way they hand out ballots is chaotic and people can judge the same kids over and over again.

I had a student last year who judged by a man who did not speak English. They do not assign out the break rounds to get the best panels. I mean it turns into a reputation game rather than a true interp tournament. At the awards last year, the guy admitted that he only cared about Debate and everything else was just to make money.

I would love to make this different, but in the end, no one cares about interp or events at these National circuit tournaments. Only at ASU have found that they care about who is juding break rounds.

Example, I judged a Semi-final at Berkeley with a man who had never judged before. Why is this type of person judging a semi-final at Berkeley. The only state that does a good job of placing judges is Illinois.
It is too bad, great competition at Berkeley but ****ty judging!

i agree judging in break rounds is a little sketch... i watched final round HI last year and 3 (or maybe 2) of them did NOT deserve to be in that round.
