I want to know if this is just a PA thing. In my state, there is an event in which you needn't qual. It's called Radio Announcing. I don't want to go into details, but I was just curious as to what other states have it, if at all. I think that it may be just a Pennsylvania thing, kind of like POI is a Texas event. Holla'!

We have Radio in Oregon, but its "Radio Commentary" and its 5 minutes long, 15 seconds grace. You're supposed to cover one (current news) topic in depth. It's pretty fun, my friend won State in it last year. But you still have to Qual to State. You have to Qual to state in everything here.

Illinois has Radio Speaking. You have to time between 4:50 and 5:05 I THINK (but I'm not sure). Each tournament gives out a packet of recent (no more than 24 hours old) news stories, and competitors have to cut the ones they find most relevant. There also has to be weather, sports, and a commercial.
radio broadcasting here in kentucky. and i don't know the first thing about it. i think they have to write a commercial...and i know they have to write a new script before each tournament, and there's one round where they're given a script to cut and read...ok, so maybe i know the first thing, but that's all. i don't know time limits, content, anything.
needless to say, i don't do radio.

Missouri also has radio, but I only saw it at, like, three tournaments ever.

Tennessee has Telivision Broadcasting, you haft to qualify for state with it. You basically play an anchor for a TV station, you make up a name and everything. You have to cover several stories, Global, national, regional, weather, special intrest. I belive thats it. I have never done it but usually a judge sits in another room and watches you on a TV monitor.
