Has anyone from MN heard about the new category this year. It's absolutely HORRIBLE. I guess it has something to do with like promoting sportsmanship or something...if anyone knows about this POST!

I emailed Jody Redman about it a couple weeks ago. It isn't a new category just a new thing the league is putting together to strengthen activities and promote sportsmanship. I really wish they would use their money on other things, like a fund to save fine arts activities that have been cut in the past few years b/c those frickin idiots at the state capital!

I believe it is just another committee that promotes sportsmanship throughout speech and other activities.

Thanks for the replies. This sounds so stupid! Maybe if none participates in it they will drop it...

Illinois added the 14th event just for State Series over 10 years ago, it started as Creative Sportsmanship - 15 minute multiple person piece. It then developed into PERFORMANCE IN THE ROUND
15 minutes in length, minimum of 3 characters, costumes, make-up and props are allowed. Performed in a 16 foot diamater, with entrances and exits only allowed at 12,3,6,9..... Music is allowed as long as it does not overshadow the performance. No set or lighting effects except 2 tables and 10 chairs are allowed.
It is an unusual medium.....somewhat similar to Group Interp, Choral Presentation, or the like.
The winner performance at the State Awards Assembly and then again at Half time for the March State Basketball Tournament (at least it did for the first 5 years or more).
Good luck......
